Sorry, misremembered. It was from another toy DVD called Toys Are Us. It's a guy called Drew Lippman, explaining his passion.

Wow, this place is really buzzing. Away for a week missed so much.

I don't think A Nag is worth $1K too. Unless its a one-off GID, maybe? Referencing to Bemon of course. Which again I would not pay unless I trade it for something equivalent in "perceive value". And which I bought at retail.

Of course, I'm guilty of paying stupid money for some toys, but to be doing it right of the bat thinking it will hit that price in the distance future is just plain silly. But of course I'm wrong?!

I thought I would like to respond to your post with a different point of view. I have to disagree with you about the auction vs BIN. I am a collector of too many things to list and have bought and sold to feed my addictions and I see no problem with selling something you've bought in an auction with a low starting bid. I feel it gives more people a shot at something for possibly a low price as opposed to a BIN where people will either complain about price or not getting a fair shot at it. I have personally sold things for less than what I paid and I have also profited. I recently had to sell some high end items to help with medical costs and I was flamed for selling these rare items. Most people don't consider why someone would have to part with their prized possessions, they just assume you're a flipper out to make a buck. I don't feel I'm a flipper if I'm trying to get the best possible price for my gems and I could personally give 2 shits what anyone else thinks of me. I see items for sale in this very community that are well over retail but no one says shit about it. I will admit I don't ever buy with the intention of selling, in a perfect world I wouldn't have to, but if something else comes along I want more or I need the cash in an emergency I won't hesitate. I really doubt anyone who owns a BG would be willing to let it go for retail which is over $200 anyway. Instead you see trade offers for other high end figures or for sale for top $$. Sorry for the long read and yes I C.U.N.T. and no its not my auction so lets see more of Coops killer art and quit bitchin'

So let me get this straight... flipping is perfectly acceptable if you start the auction at 1 cent? Even the KR boards don't subscribe to that logic. If flipping is OK then I understand the argument, if it's not then how it's flipped makes little difference in the outcome and it's effect on the community. By putting a Nag on ebay you are not risking any loss and you will certainly get more than retail or a fair price that you could easily sell here for. You are doing it because you know it will rack up an unreasonable price. Does this apply to everything? No. It does apply to Nags and certain other items though. Your Green Hell RV is not going to sell for a low price on evilbay.... isn't that how it got that name? People have sold Nags here for 500. Is it retail? No. Is it a good deal? Questionable but it's certainly a better deal than ebay and selling here for a set price insured that the seller got what he/she wanted without gouging further or setting unrealistic price points to the general public. If you really think that flipping a Nag on ebay is all good then maybe you need to read the sticky on flipping again. Also please don't bring other hobbies into it as justification. We all know that other hobbies celebrate ripping each other off when ever possible to profit. I for one am happy this community isn't like that.

I think buying something just to turn around and re-sell it is the real issue.

I agree buying a super limited item or winning a lottery just to profit off of your fellow collector here is pretty shitty. We can all stop pretending it doesn't happen also, because who else is the target market? Buyers who have zero self control share half the blame, because it enables this endless cycle to continue. If people would just stop paying outrageous sums, and trophy show boating wasn't so in your face here, we could end it.

Take formally hot items that endlessly cycle on yja. After awhile most smart sellers drop prices when they realize people won't bite at unreasonable starting bids. I've even seen this happen on newer stuff. But it seems with certain toys they'll always be some jackwad that thinks spending 1K on it makes it the Rolls Royce of toys and the envy of everyone here. I just see an idiotic douchebag!

While we'd all be happier if flippers never existed, I'd venture a guess that the value of these items would still be sky high.

Say if the Nag lottery had 50 applicants at the low end; I've seen maybe 2 Nags from one run being sold. So from a run of 10 Nags, I'd guess the ratio of collectors to flippers would be 4:1? That gives us 40 collectors to 10 flippers. If 8 collectors get a Nag, there are still 32 collectors who are still vying for a Nag. Out of those 32, there are 2 that are willing to spend 1K on them.

Now, if you take the flippers out of the equation, that's 2 more Nags that go to collectors but you still have 30 collectors fighting for the same toy. Unless those 2 Nags go to the 2 collectors willing to spend 1K on them, you'll still have the next tier of collectors willing to spend 900, 800, 700, 600...

And the problem is, the more I think about it, you can't blame the collectors either. It's exactly how everything works in a capitalist society unfortunately. People bid on houses, people bid on produce, people bid on clothes, people bid on toys, people bid on stamps. There's always someone ready to outbid you and when you outbid someone out else, you're that guy everyone is cursing be it $1000, $100 or $10.

You're disappointed no ones attacking you personally? I'm sure you know how people feel about flipping. I'm not mad at you for spending to much on toys. If I had money to burn there are things out there I would undoubtedly overpay for. I just hope you are blowing your wad on things that are more rare than hyped. I suppose ultimately I can't blame the buyer as much as the flipper. I would hope that you are buying the toys out of a love for them and assume the flipper is doing it out of a love for money. It was also the flipper who bought a toy they didn't want. Still, you can't pretend that deep pocket buyers feed the flippers their opportunity. At the end of the day though this board has a no flipping policy not a no over spending policy. People are going to do what they want either way. I don't have to like it though.

I don't even think I know what's going on in this thread anymore

More rare then hyped? Like say, limited to 10 or less for example? Not siding with anyone, just bringing up that Nags are BOTH rare and hyped.

    Um, wow.

No I really don't need people to validate anything I say here, least of all people I don't know.

If you can't figure out how to put my comment in context, I can't help you there.
It really is just in regards to some people getting a pass and others not.

I need to stay away from this thread.

Sorry atease, I though you where putting yourself out there as an overspender and expecting people to shake a finger. Prehaps I should take your name more seriously. :) The wonder and ambiguity of internet posts. I will shut my pie hole and await more pics and the next lotto.

I've heard that to ensure the Nag parts pull from the molds correctly, they mix the blood of an orphan into the vinyl.

Why is the thread called Angora Patio now?

Assuming it was changed by a certain person with an impish sense of humor who is leaving or has already left the employ of Super7, and I don't mean the dude who likes food, I believe it refers to, you know, plushy spendy money luxury related stuff. Like people are dishing and dissing right now. Remember? "Make toys, not treasures." ;)

Or maybe I just got paranoia.
