Just ordered the new Mgła, the sample track I heard on youtube sounded excellent. The newest Augrimmer, Forteresse, & Order of Orias are all worth checking out. If anyone likes black/thrash metal the new Ketzer is out. I think I prefer Satan's Boundaries Unchained a bit more though. The album that keeps on kicking my ass, which was my top album of 2011, is Aosoth - III. It's colossal.

Wow -- Nice to see a mention of Mgła. I had no idea he had a new album. Mdłości is so good.

I will definitely get around to checking it and your other recommendations out!

Edit: Oh, it's more than one dude. Oops.

Any Maniac Butcher fans? Or Abigail fans? Both bands are great.

Anyone heard of Xanthochroid? They opened for Mayhem at the show I missed but luckily a friend pointed them to me. I'm normally not into Symphonic Black Metal, but this shit is great. Looking at some of their videos they must have been awesome live! Its really great stuff.

Abigail Williams, I'm guessing? I've tried to like them a few times, but I just can't get into it. Like Winu said, symphonic bm just doesn't really interest me too much, unless it's done really well. The metalcore vocals don't really interest me too much, either. But then again, I've only heard their first album.

Amazing! Thanks for the recommendation man. :D

On a video for "Depressing Paths Through Fullmoon Forests" someone was complaining about the band blatantly copying Burzum, to which someone replied, "the entire black metal scene is a rip off of burzum lol"

    lol.

So I could use some brainers BM knowledge and help. I just found Waitan's new record, its pretty awesome but theres some controversy about if theyre neo-nazis or not. I generally steer clear of the black metal genre, so any knowledge that you guys can send my way would be great. I sprung for a hoody but certainly dont want to get jumped by MHARPs for rocking it ;). Actually I would cancel my order if it was the case.
    Fanks!

Watain is awesome! Going to see them in April.

But, that whole Neo-Nazi thing is supposedly just a joke they pulled.

One of the band members said this about it:

"NSBM is a joke, a despaired approach of people who're incapable to comprehend the perversion and the insanity of Black Metal. They're trying to appear extreme and limit their selves in their conception to that kind of society, which describes something that we wouldn't care less about. Fuck the world! Black Metal doesn't have anything to do with the world like you know it."

I'm surprised it has taken so long for this topic to surface.

That's a pretty weird answer by the band member, haha. While there definitely is some nsbm out there, I don't think Watain would be categorized as such.

I listen to some nsbm. I like the music, but certainly not because of the member's beliefs. It was after listening to some bands that get labelled as such that I learned of their personal views. It didn't make me think any less of them, just a 'huh, interesting,' type of thing. I personally don't care at all about any artist's (or random person's) beliefs, but I understand and respect that others may and do feel differently. Black metal at its core isn't about sensitivity or caring about perceived sensitive subjects (I mean, it's a genre of music with core themes based upon religion, occultism, depression, death, suicide, pain, violence, hatred, etc. -- pretty heavy stuff, right), it's about 'fuck you and everything else,' to put it simply.

In most cases, nationalism does not equal Nazi. Also in most cases, nsbm is really terrible.

Thanks for the input so far everyone. I think its an interesting as on SB the mere mention of Skrewdriver (Who I for SURE aint down with) sends the boards into fits, but BM seems to have a built in weird grey area. Not being well in the nuances of BM I certainly wouldnt posit on the beliefs of any band luckily I can come here to ask you guys who know a lot more about the topic than I. Is the Wikipedia entry biased by some random Waitan hater? Because their first demo certainly has a sketch title if its true.

Peste Noire's first demo is titled Aryan Supremacy. They also happen to be one of my favorite bm bands. They are not ns at all and are actually French nationalists*. Odd, huh. Hard to believe, but it's true.

While some bands may title things to appear shocking (a pretty cheap tool, if you ask me) or to just base lyrics off of, some others truly believe in the shit. You've definitely got to do a bit of research if it's something that will bother you in the long run.

*I think having pride about nearly anything, especially regarding the nation your mother birthed you on, is utterly ridiculous. Plus, that demo blows.

Celeste and the Secret are both great. I'll have to check out those other bands.

You'd probably really enjoy Amenra, one of my favorite bands ever, no doubt.

I don't necessarily dislike this kind of music, I just wanted to chip in saying that the French
have a expression for this style, "black metal à casquette" that I find quite funny.
Could be translated to Ballcap BM

I could'nt care less about NSBM. To be honest, I find those idiots amusing sometimes.
What I really can't stand are fuckeads like Silencer and their followers.
