A great hero of cinema has passed away, Carlo Pedersoli aka Bud Spencer [31 October 1929 – 27 June 2016] A professional swimmer in his youth - he was the first Italian to do 100m in under a minute - Mr.Spencer went on to have a very storied career in film (just check out this incredible filmography), and even later ran for politics under the Forza Italia banner. I know he might not be as well known to a lot of folks on here, but he was a fixture of my childhood; a hero as much as any tight-wearing comic book character. With his many roles, he was always still Bud Spencer. I am saddened that we have lost such a giant of Italian cinema. Thank you for the many, many memories Sig. Pedersoli. May your opus continue to delight new generations of fans for many decades to come. Riposi in pace.
Lower your fists to half-mast today, for Flatfoot has taken his leave. He spent uncountable hours haunting my VCR when I was growing up, often in the company of his good friend Terrence, and no doubt his broad, beautiful face will continue to flicker for hours more wherever I may call home. A true loss, but at least we can visit with him whenever we like. Ciao, Bud.
