the $300 was a tip. Contributing to the delinquency of a preacher was a highlight of the wedding! I wonder what god gets as a cut. Did I mention he showed up 30 mins late? He was awesome!

An update -- the latest polls show this to be very close with the Yes side having a slight lead. Every vote is important...tell your friends!
So you got married inside a building used to worship something you dont believe in?. Just curious what the point of that was? you liked the decor?...
In my case, I'm not a practicing Catholic, so to make it "official" we we're married in a Catholic church. My mom doesn't make very many requests, so I did it for her, and it didn't bother me that much.
Out of curiosity where are you getting this update? I just wouldn't base anything yet until election day.
From a recent email from the campaign. I should have clarified that the results really show it to be a statistical tie within the margin of error. And because it can be a bit confusing: the measure would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry. So NO preserves that right. Don't get confused and think that yes is a vote for same-sex marriage.
Yep, it was close to the restaurant we wanted to have our reception in and it looked nice filled with flowers.
Hey coaster I'm a tiny bit late to join in but Grats on the wedding!! I wish I could votećNo for ya but I'm not a californian or even in the states at this moment...but I am preparing for my own wedding coming up this Saturday here in Jpn, and it just saddens me to think that 2 people in love just can't get married. May you guys have a long and happy life together!! As a side note, damn Glenn! only $300...thats a steal compared to the $1200 I'm paying the priest for marrying us in the church...and only around 20 guests
This weekend I went to a birthday party for my neice, and what do I find on my sister's front grass but one of those ubiquitous 'Yes on 8' signs. Very disappointing but not really all that surprising, I guess. They've been forcefeeding my neice and nephew a bunch of crap about Jesus since they came out of the womb. I alwasy thought she was one of the 'good' christians, advocating for love and acceptance and tolerance, etc. Guess I was wrong...
Man, this is a great thread and I'm totally happy to see it on this board. Dybukkim- I think your posts are pretty provoking and definitely show how complex this problem is, but if I was in California, I would still vote no. I think that if any governing body is going to legislate, it needs to regard human rights over any organization's rights. This is what democracy should be.
It's just amazing (and extremely sad) to see that there are still other people trying to force others on one how to live their life through prejudice and ignorance.
shit!!! that is depressing news... i really have my hopes up that somewhere like california could over-ride this kind of bullshit... it is sad that things like this are still an issue in the US... in europe,,,pretty much anything goes nowadays,,,straight or gay,,couples do not need to marry,,,but can claim unmarried partrnership rights if they do not feel like marrying...the choice is there.. i have been here for 9 years as an unmarried partner & just received uk (i.e. EU) citizenship because of it... it is really sad that my partner could not move to the us with me under any circumstances,,,as long as there is no marriage certificate...craziness i really hope these things change soon,,,unfortunately,,as much as i like obama,,he has made his opinions clear on these matters... & it does not look good...
Is 55% to 45% right now. Ugh. As happy as I am that Obama won, this makes me sick. Here where I live in Santa Clarita (one of the only conservative areas of Los Angeles) I saw literally 100's of these psychos protesting for Yes on 8 yesterday. I wanted to drive up on the fucking curb. In something that should be ironic, but isn't at this point, all of these people were bused in from a Christian church. During my 12 years of Catholic school (if you ever wonder why I listen to Black Metal, that's it) I must have missed the part where Jesus was a hateful bigot. So fucking sad.
not over yet but not looking good either http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/individual/#val=CAI01
Right now in California is 53% yes, 47% no, with 50% of the precincts reporting. The only hope is that a lot of the inland counties, which were predominantly yes, have 100% reported and the bigger metropolitan areas (SF Bay, Los Angeles) have less areas reported so I guess we can pray for a catch up, but probably not. I was shocked to see that it narrowly passed in Los Angeles County. WTF? Aren't we supposed to be a bunch of "evil liberals"? I guess we're just evil now.
