Thanks for the reminder! Heard the news on the radio this morning. Make sure your new ebay PW is different from your new PayPal PW
Too bad it's a panic and everyone is changing their passwords on ebay right now, making it virtually impossible to change it. I keep getting the 'try again later' page. Fuck I have to change paypal too? I've had that one for 12 years.
^^ yea i'm getting sick of changing passwords. makes it way harder to keep track of them when some are different than others. ebay says there will be no activity on accounts until your password is reset.
Weird, I had heard the same yet I was able to purchase something through the app without a glitch. (Well, with a small glitch, it didn't offer the option to pay through one of my cc, which I found annoying, but nearly so! Anyone knows why it may be so?)
ERRR!! already changed shit. maybe ill change it back later. would my ebay even be a problem if i only have my paypal linked?
"The company also owns electronic payment service PayPal, but eBay says there is no evidence PayPal information was hacked, since that information is stored separately on a secure network." http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/ebay-cy ... -1.2649344
p: i meant only ebay was broken into, not paypal (as stated by the op), app or no. e: if someone other than you uses your ebay account to purchase something with a stolen credit card, who knows what kind of hassle you have to go through to clear your name. that's just one example of why your account should be re-secured.
For anyone who hates managing passwords I can recommend lastpass. I've been using it for going on two years now and have never looked back. https://lastpass.com/ I have it set up so that I have a different password for absolutely everything, but all I have to do to login somewhere is right-click and fill form, or I can set up auto-logins. You can also have it auto-generate passwords for you, which it will then save. As a backup, you can also create secure text notes in lastpass, so that you can keep track of everything in text format. And no, i don't work for them : )
new PW = supercalifragilisticexpialidocious then add some numbers and symbols easy to forget, and too frustrating to type out for the hackers
It's pretty telling that I have [had] and used an ebay password for a long time now for something that was relevant to me in 1998. And that it is [was] incredibly simple (scarily so, really) - which at the time was fine for a security measure. Times sure are different now. Yeah, I know I should have changed it long ago, but just funny how it 'ages' my internet use. I'll crawl back in my cave now.
could be due to this not so obvious setting: seems like a fairly large security hole since an unauthorized user could have quietly linked third party apps to your account during this process. changing your password doesn't prevent them from accessing parts of your account through apps even though you may feel secure with your new password.
