Hello all, don't know how much international coverage this has had but we've bit hit today with a 7.89 earthquake. Coast of Guerrero got it worse with tenths of houses fallen. Mexico City had some 'minor' damages and this scared the shit out of me. I was riding the subway when it started to rock and I was like ' what the hell?'. I hope Frank is OK!
Damn man, glad you are okay. I hate end of days type talk but damn the earth quakes are insane these last few years. Hope we hear from him soon and all is well.
Yes, I remember not worrying for shakes in years! May be a decade or so. And in the last 3 or 4 years we've had at least 3 over 7.0!
Thanks for your concern guys. Replicas have been going on all day (last one just a minute ago). I'm actually without cell phone service, and I thnk everyone else too. Cheers to the richest man on earth and his rubbish of service. Parts of the city have no power and I'm guessing traffic must be hell in some parts (as if it usually wasn't).
I think it's pretty common to not have service after a quake - the "lines" probably get jammed with everyone trying to make a call. After the last quake I was in (Seattle, 2001ish) nobody could make cell calls for several hours. And that was only a 6.something.
Yes, but usually service is restored within the hour. But yes, this was much bigger than the ones we've had in recent years. Also, just saw a photo of some of the subway lines that got damaged. I'm just thankful the one I was on didn't.
Hope that everyone is okay. Mexico is one of my favorite places in the world, love to live there someday.
that must've been terrifying to be "trapped" in the subway when it hit. glad to hear that you're ok, and i hope the damage isn't catastrophic. our thoughts to you and your friends and family!
shit I just saw the news, I'm glad no mayor damages and according to the news no deaths, glad to hear your alright
Thanks for the concern and kind comments guys. It felt terrible while it was happening and there was a kind of fear-in-the-air kinda thing going on all day. Some people here get hysteric (with all reason) because they've had terrible experiences from '85. But everything's cool now. and @COOP Mexico is prrretty cool isn't it!!
So glad to read that all is well for you and yours, Aldo! I just got word from another friend I know in MC and am relieved to hear that his family made it through okay as well. Terrible news yesterday for so many families, though - hard to imagine in my Midwestern corner of the rust belt, natural disaster-wise.
