Glen’s opinion about the protests in HK lost all credibility the moment he made a stupid joke about it in the hxs thread

This thread has become my favorite morning read.

Whole collection for sale, DM offers
There's a lot of that going around. Collectors in the game for a few years spending crazy money, then they get out and want to sell their toys for the crazy prices they bought them. Usually higher than what they paid. I'm also surprised at how many collectors have such impressive collections from just a few years of collecting. That dude with two Leviathans has only been collecting for a short while. Same with the dude interviewed by toy chronicle. What do people do for a living? Am I the only toy collector with a medium paying job?
Oh yeah and fuck that guy selling the moon dog. Taking toys out of the mouths of salivating collectors like me.
What's the saying? "The flame that burns brightest burns fastest"? Except in this case the fire is in some people's wallets.
But to your point, I think the new collectors with impressive collections fall into a few different categories:
- Hustlers. These are the dudes wheeling and dealing behind the scenes like it's a full time job. These people, IMO, tend to be the shadiest fuckers in the scene right now. They reshare a lot kissing ass to high heaven and then 2 months later you never see that "OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH NEW GRAIL" piece again.
- Poor OCD collectors. These are the ones that are getting packages from Mandarake every weekend but then need to sell something in a panic when they drive over a nail and need a new tire.
- Affluenzans. These are the people who can afford to spend the crazy money. Maybe they have a high paying IT job, or they run a bank. Nonetheless, 6 figures and a geeky disposition means a lot of the traditional things their peers spend their money on (cars, kids, big house, etc) goes towards their hobbies instead.
Some collectors I thought must be rich from what they are getting are actually piss poor and constantly living on the edge. Others with humble collections could afford to buy damn near anything but simply choose to be more casual about things. And some people will do some morally repugnant shit on Instagram that makes you question your faith in humanity all for a fucking toy. I've come to realize that when it comes to money, you can never judge anyone by an outside appearance.
I think for about half the year I fall into the poor OCD collector. Though I haven't sold any toys for emergencies, I have sold a good deal of comics and have taken some pretty crappy weekend jobs to cover my stupid spending habits.
Don’t forget those that are born with a silver spoon. I have met at least 5 collectors from Asia (China) who have rich parents that set them up for life.
As for me, I’ll opt for being a poor OCD collector.
So it goes . . .
I wish Skullbrain had a poll for when we think the hype bubble will die down. I used to think a year or two but fucking hell, I've been seeing the word sofubi pop up in the most unlikely places these days. I think it's at the biggest it's ever been and even if some collectors fall off here or there, there may be a whole new generation of collectors incoming. Pure speculation of course.
Fuck all this fake 'controversy' over the current Joker movie and fuck the people commenting on it who obviously haven't watched it. One guy commented: 'Murder porn. Yawn yawn fucking yawn'.
I'd bet good money he hasn't seen it. There's really not that many on-screen deaths compared to other films, and each one is over very quickly with no lingering shots or gratuitous gore. Its actually quite a slow paced and realistic film.
I'd take Joker over any Marvel flick any day of the week. Fuck this fake fucking social media outrage surrounding it.
100% agreed on most points. So many thoughts were out there without even seeing the movie. I saw it yesterday and loved it. Loved the tone and thought it was a great homage to Taxi Driver. I wish more comic movies would follow suit. I would love to see Noah Hawley's (Legion/Fargo) Dr. Doom movie, be made but I doubt it will get greenlit.
Yep, i really enjoyed it. Joaquin does a really solid take on Joker, he deserves the praise for his performance. I couldn't give two fucks about his personal life, his working method or how he does on chat shows, the man is a damn good actor. He's got plenty of time left to become one of the greats, perhaps.
- People who break agreements
- Douchebags in monster trucks who feel a "tough guy" need to race past you, super close while you're minding your own business riding your bike
I forgot about that one and haven't watched it, thanks for the reminder. Two of his flicks that stood out for me were 'Inherent Vice' and 'Her'.
Thx for reminding me that I still need to watch Inherent Vice... Afaic he's been one of the greats for a while!
+1 to Hawley hopes.
+17 for Her.
+36 for Inherent Vice.
Caught a little of a 'reasoned debate' on NPR last night on the way home from some errands. The 'controversy' hadn't pierced my bubble yet, but it's always a sure bet that something stupid is happening in the world of social media when you come across such a segment.
Seconded I am going to buy ween records and burn them in effigy
I haven't seen it yet, but this country has a big problem with confronting some very ugly things we would see if we looked in the mirror. Income inequality, gun violence, racism, you name it. Satan forbid we ever look internally to see how we could improve our lives as a society and as people when it's so much easy to just blame a single example of a larger issue.
