"The seven kingdoms, the wildings......eeeeerrrybody...." I never knew I needed a GoT recap so much in my life. Until now.
So with news now that both remaining seasons of the show will be shortened (I am guessing to seven episodes apiece), and that the release of next season is going to be delayed until the summer, I am thinking we are going to be in dire supply of a Westeros fix for this dry spell. [And I have great doubt that this will be alleviated by the appearance of any supposedly referenced book]. But, for anyone who doesn't want to spend the time on a re-watch, or would just like a small reminder of the setup of R+L=J throughout the show, here ya go: It occurs to me that I never did end up posting my thoughts on the last episode/final synopsis, as I was waiting for everyone to finish up the season, but I suppose it is moot now anyways.
^ Brick, please. Some of us have been collecting them like a set. Had to stop the video early as it was just making me miss The Leftovers. I'll try again later.
I hope Danerys fails horribly trying to ascend to the iron throne! How awesome would that be- to build her up so much with these dragons and everything and then a big nope! She's the most annoying character on the show. I at least hope she gets rid of the Lannisters (well Cersei) once in for all, then somehow Jon gets the throne and Sansa gets the North by default. The end. Fuck all this politically correct BS, throwing the modern twist of girl power etc etc. Just not believable to me even if it is a fictional time period.
Not that I as fan of the music as such - or the way the style has become somewhat ubiquitous lately - but just in case you may have forgotten how great a show GoT has been, this clip serves as a great reminder/trailer for the seasons thus far. I know it is just some editing work, but it does capture some of the magic and makes me want to watch it all over again. [spoilers everywhere, naturally]
Makes you wonder why every post-dragons Targaryen didn't end rebel sieges with wildfire. Either stacked up against walls and lit, or lit and catapulted over them. Even dum dum Mace could have broken Iron Stannis with that power.
Ha, yeah I saw that too. Funny timing, I am just on my season 6 re-watch as well (just be thankful I don't feel the need to do a re-recap for each episode as well, too many walls of texts on SB already ).
So I haven't seen the episode yet [and will keep this spoiler-free as much as possible anyhow], but I am pretty excited for its return to the small screen. We will see what this season holds, and what, if any, of the predictions come true. With departure of the show getting further and further afield of the books, I'd like to see the strong tradition continue, but I do carry with some of fears from what we saw of that last season.
A lot of plot holes and weird oversights for sure. I'm still perplexed by the actor swap they did with that guy from early on in the show...I forget his name. He was involved with the Dothraki and originally had long blonde hair and then all of a sudden he vanished and was replaced with the current guy who has stubble and short brown hair and is/was a love interest of Daenarys or however the hell you spell her damn name. Edit: I also really hope Littlefinger gets some more time and does some explaining next episode because Sansa sure as hell didn't explain herself for getting him involved all too well.
Daario Naharis. What's perplexing? There are several swaps. Gregor Clegane has been played by at least two actors. Beric Dondarrion is another I think. Maybe a couple others. I chalk it up to schedule conflicts, not being able to come to terms on a contract, or just not liking the first actor.
It's like he jumped through some sort of horrible space-time continuum and teleported through space and ended up in some sort of freaky backwards world.
have to admit, as much as i love silicon valley, this season was no where near as good as the previous. I think GOT will turn it up real quick, we've only got 12 episodes left! hopefully they can cram it all in, doubtful though. I'm sure there will be a thousand holes.
Considering in the book he is supposed to have blue hair, a golden stache w/ three pronged beard, + bright colored clothing, dumb & dumber probably consider their own vision to be greater than the source material.
While I have a few quibbles of my own with the episode, I am happy to see it back now (and excited to see the story forward). Anyone care to elaborate on why they think it has started out so poorly/is headed downhill?
^^ Ever since the show hasn't had the books to base itself off of (and even sometimes when it still did), the show has just taken some really stupid/nonsensical turns. Between the books, novellas, show, and video games it's an entire world that some people are really in to. Most all still love the show, but when they're confronted with lazy writing/plot holes, they can't help but complain. I'm 100% one of them also.
I didn't have any real issues with the 1st episode of the season- basically was only expecting a set up the season episode anyhow. I mean we really don't have to wait till the show is over to clearly see how it's going to end do we? As much as I'd love to see a dark turn and stupid Daenarys lose and die- we all know it's going to end with her on the throne. Only mystery really is how many pieces of the chess board will die getting her there and who may betray who? Maybe the shows writers will have some balls- ascend to throne, kill her off in the last scene and the game continues fade to black.... If this show ends with some like a big celebration like Return of the Jedi I'm going to be pissed.
Oh, without a doubt Phil, this is exactly what I was alluding to in my earlier post. The show has significantly stumbled/lowered its calibre since the deviation from the [available] written source material started last season. I agree wholly, and I really hope that they don't keep it up this season. [or LOTR for that matter!] You know, I could easily see this happening. As much as the whole of ASOIAF has been based off subverting stereotypical fantasy tropes, I don't think we can expect much different when it comes to an ending of this opus. Especially/given that the television show is now going its own way as a seemingly separate entity, I don't think that they would even approach that, and if anything, the further along it goes, the more it seems to be following those same tendencies it purports to refute. Feels like they are rushing heading to get there though, and with the showrunners already speaking of other projects to work on, I'm not feeling all that optimisitc they aren't burnt out/fed up with the entire GoT phenomenon, and are all that devoted to finishing it off in a satisfactory and quality fashion.
I mean another scenario is they quickly get Daenarys to the throne (and kill off the bad Lannisters) and her and Snow unite to destroy the White Walkers, which I'm 99% will happen as well. I just want to see dark shit happen, I mean its wonderful to see the Starks finally getting some revenge after years of taking it on the chin, but what I love about the show is all the twists and sudden deaths of major characters who are supposedly on the side of good. Stay true to form I say....
