There were a lot of customs that would have made for great production release, standard sized Zags... I'd love to see that golden (or "amber") Miboras as a Zag. Same with the clear green w/ blue & yellow Mibora. Or a production made of the glow w/ pink & yellow Zag shown above. Or the clear green w/ blue & silver Zag. Those were the ones that really caught my eye. But I'm guessing the owners wouldn't be too pleased if they did production runs of their one-off pieces.
nope. a slight variation of mine would be ok with me though, i.e. adding another color to it or changing one.
One thing I've noticed is that gargamel has now done 2 reproductions of older zagorans except they redid them in clear vinyl. 1) Hawaii zag....they redid it in a 1-off but in clear pink 2) the orange green spray zag....from the picture it looks like the reddid it except with clear orange vinyl. Can anyone confirm that those were the only ones?
I'm almost positive the Hawaii is a one off. I'm pretty sure it says 1/1 on the bottom of the foot. Stealth can you confirm?
Right..both are 1 offs of existing paint schemes. But are those the only 2? Hawaii (run of 30 or so) Clear Hawaii-1 off Orange/Green (run of xxx) Clear Orange/green (1 off) Are there others? i.e. Regular production runs that have been re done as 1 offs.
Here are the HPs I picked up. Crouching Zagoran by Kiyoka Crouching Zagoran by Kiyoka Crouching Zagoran by Naoya Crouching Zagoran by Koji (Scored off Cometdebris.com) Rokuron by Naoya Mibora(h) by Kiyoka And for you Ralph: Gargamel totally RULED Preview Night. (BIG THANKS to KZ for hooking this & the Mibora(h) up!)
HOLY SH!T Joe those Crouching Zags are INCREDIBLE!! Wanna tra..........oh sorry I promised I wouldn't, but DAMN three of them Beautiful Mibora also!!
Fantastic scores and pics Joe! The Mibora is sooo great! I especially like the teal/green paint in the mouth, a really nice touch! Thanks for posting the photos!
Why is it that so many people only want Kiyoka hand-paints? I think Naoya paints just as well, and often times his stuff is the absolute best at the custom shows. But you never see people specifically searching for Naoya hand-paints. It puzzles me. Not that Kiyoka's aren't also great, but he seems to be the only one that really gets the attention.
I think, part of it is, is that he's the MAIN dude at Gargamel, or so it SEEMS. SO it's more interesting to some people to get something painted by the head guy vs. someone who works there. BUT than how do you explain teh Koji HP's getting so much love too? Just a theory. I think the whole crew does some serious damage.
Honestly, I think Koji kinda got clout the way Kozik did - as an available, and active board member with ties to toy companies. People felt like they had a personal relationship with a toy designer, and in some cases they did. However, I think that's 99% of why Kozik was successful, whereas Koji can actually paint well and design a good looking toy.
I know - that's what I saw first and really wanted a Zag to match the Mibora, but a standard not a mini...and a production not a one-off.
And a big ups to Scrappers Rokuron, though it's been said already. another sleeper toy hit of SDCC 09. I almost didn't get one...thanks toy gods.
While Kiyoka is definitely the man, I purchased a Naoya Deathra at SDCC. I also personally think Naoya is mad, mad, mad talented. If anyone wants to let go of their Naoya customs, drop me a line.
