A friend of mine just came back from doing volunteer work in Iwaki, Japan and posted this photo on facebook. Any idea what it was for before or after the tsunami?
Wow, that is one trippy picture. The scale looks all out of whack. Is it HUGE? If so those figures in front are lifesize?? Is that a real tire in front?? Just hard to tell from this one picture, but bottom line I don't have an answer to your question, only more questions. Thanks for posting this though!
It's definitely large. Looks about 4-5ft tall! Bad ass too. More info behind the pic would be awesome.
Looks like maybe the remains of a fairground or game center. But driving around Japan you see weird stuff like this by the side of the road all the time, much the same way you might see a brontosaurus outside a burger shop in the desert in the States. There are even 500yen books of collected snaps of them in the convenience stores sometimes, so even the Japanese think they're odd. Anyway, it's just as likely to have been from a car repair shop or smth. Up the road from here there's a two-storey place. On the roof is a giant King Kong (a lady Kong in a red dress, with a baby under one arm & a fighter-jet in the other hand if I remember, tho I don't go that way very often). What do they sell? Contact lenses!
Man, this was a hard one to figure out! ... Lot's of pics on various blogs (seems to have become something of a tourist attraction), but not much info. Looks like the head was found inside what remains of a 7/11. "Near Fukushima Power Plant ... Godzilla! Finally landed!!!" one blogger writes. Another (a volunteer I think - those are volunteers tents you can see) says that the store manager requested help to move the head out of the shop, so the pics of it inside are the 'before', and those outside are 'after'. Dates on the pics confirm this too. Whether they put it back kind of like how it was isn't clear, though it is kind of suggestive of Godzilla emerging from the sea. Same blogger also says, incidentally, that electricity has not yet been restored in that area as rebuilding may not be allowed there (although in the later pics it looks like it has been?) Hence the 7/11 truck acting as "refrigerator", and the jocular decoration of Goji with colored lightbulbs. Most of these pics were taken this month btw. The sign says they have "Godzilla Eggs" available! Lol, I dunno. "And why do not know that, around the convenience store was decorated with various objects" hurr durr.
Damn. Way bigger than I thought. I thought that was a toy tire from one of those little Kappa Carts or something. Thanks for doing the detective work Alice.
