So did anyone come away from DCon with a Hawaii YK? I've heard from a few people, and none of them got them. I'm wondering if they were even there.
^ There's a few pics up in the dcon thread, pages 5 and 6. They were there but went fast, everything did viewtopic.php?f=23&t=40718 I think this is a full list of what they had, might have missed something though. monstergool all black monstergool black head/red body Hawaii YK Mr. Squiggle arms unpainted black and neon pink monsters very few leftover nycc toys(maybe 5 of each): black oji body/gid monster head/shik arms monster head rattles(gid?) I didn't see any mash-up 1 offs. Someone out there needs to show the butt view of squiggle arms.
Really? I don't like mash-ups to begin with but GS has managed to make them turn me on! I'm with Bill on this one:
That would be really dope if the Squadt itself is clear Sofubi. I have a feeling that it won't be though.
"Young Gohst features an inner brain piece suspended within a translucent body. Pushing the envelope, the tongue sticks out through the mouth – pretty tech" Via VP
excuse me sir, is it a dummy, mummy, etc. mashup??? looks exactly like all the other unoriginal dreck over on kr, could you please refrain from posting this krap on skullbrain. thanks.
He has as all the right in the world to post that. This is a unique sofubi figure demonstrating how Grody Shogun is pushing the bounds of traditional concepts of body parts + points of articulation. Don't like it? Fine, that's your right, but you have no right to tell people what to post or what to like. Thought policing sucks.
Was just gearing up to post a similar annoyance! I don't know dinkall about Ferg, but what's the beef with posting Grody news in the Grody thread? Comment about the toy, not the postmaker, alifeintoys!
i wish young gohst (had to look up the spelling) had the new ferg 2.0 arms. having fewer points of articulation is moving in the wrong direction for grody (and ferg). we need more monkey arms! what's grody's involvement here? just as a producer? neither component is sculpted by him. and what's with the limbless totems? scarface looks like he's wrapped up in a kimono straight jacket. i hope these at least receive movable arms.
I dont dig the ferg thing or KR'ish stuff done in soft vinyl but atleast fergs stuff is usually pretty cool and has fun accessories. clear pink rifle would be radd the totem dudes, I dont even know what to think about those. I hope theyre in the very early stages of sculpting..
what happened to these 2 guys ? unSufes Ojisan and Karakuri I am very pleased to see new stuff from Luke but first of all, I would love to have on hands some old stuff. did anyone receive theirs ?
I'm going to vote badass as is - I was just talking about how amazing it would be if Buta produced some buildings and trees, and it's as if Luke intercepted my thought and immediatly began producing 'envronmental' pieces. That is to say - I'd be sure happy to have some non-character Grody shapes with which to array the display! I'd pay a premium for Grodyhenge.
Still waiting on mine. Sent an email about it a week ago but no response. Anyway, I like the ferg figures. And have heard through cherry vinyl and I imagine the ferg collab, Luke and Ricky are trying to bring some new interest from western collectors and western artists to Japanese vinyl. I know that idea will get mixed thoughts and reactions on this board as western artists start making sofubi. But from everything I hear while going strong in the US. Sofubi in Japan is not selling well and Ricky and Luke are looking for ways to keep this hobby alive and strong. So if you have to look at a Japan made [expletive deleted]. Just remember those efforts are for the hope that in a few years from now there will still be some new kick ass monsters being made.
The details are fuzzy on the entire drawing-to-sculpt-to-refined-sculpt-to-wax-to-refined-wax-to-mould process, but could these be the outside of a wax mould? Like maybe we're not seeing what's inside them?
Luke has a large number of figures in the development process. As part of my piece on the Fort for Clutter, I shot two file drawers filled with sculpts in various stages of development. His studio is like Willy Wonka's factory. Tired Children - there's nothing inside wax protos, which are made from the silicon molds. The wax parts then go to the copper mold making factory. The two halves of a silicon mold form blocks, like this: And opened, they look like this:
Ok. Seriously I love this grody!! I am anxiously waiting for one to appear in my mailbox through some sort of grody magic.......Or for someone to sell me one.
