Franz Waxman scored 'Bride of Frankenstein', not Bernard Herman. And best 'Monster' book evah---'World War Z' by Max Brooks (yes, Mel's son). I love that book sooo much. My wife and I even listened to the audiobook of it during our flight to Japan, she loved it, and she's about as much into zombies as she is Japanese toys (i.e. not even a little).
Every fucking halloween!....greatest series of all time.....along with every other horror movie u can cram in.....i love horror!!!!!!!!
That's not necessarily true. There's a popular traveling Halloween party that takes place on the JR Osaka Loop Line, and some bars have parties. Sometimes people over there celebrate Christmas with costume parties, too. (In fact, Marusan President Eiji Kaminaga recently showed me a picture of himself dressed up like Ultra Ace at one of these.) I think it's unrealistic to expect many other countries to celebrate it, though, seeing as how it's really an English tradition.
Skyler, I guess I like a range of horror movies; slasher, zombie, vampire, ghost, supernatural. I'm not even sure of the sub-genres. I'm pretty thick-skinned and not so easliy disturbed so throw any suggestions at me. It seems that horror flics are your thing so I'd love to hear what you like. My friends and I have been renting most of the horror movies we've been viewing from Netflix, which I'm assuming carries only a fraction of what's out there. Most of the horror movies I've seen in the last several years have left me wanting. I guess what I'm getting at with this thread is, what horror movies would skullbrainers recommend? or consider decent horror films? I know there are other sites and forums for this stuff but this is the only message board I belong to and I want to keep it that way. Besides, I promise not to bug you all during other holidays with my horror viewing/reading/gaming queries! This is just a season prep thread I thought might be fun for all us Halloween fanatics.
"One more day 'till Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, One more day 'till Halloween, Silver Shamrock" No one would dare make a movie devoted to child murder these days, it's much safer to just strap down some vapid coeds and torture them.
Thank you for the correction. If my memory is getting foggy, I blame Dr. Frank for putting the wrong brain in my head.
I don't know about "every" one being great. I'd say that 4 is the last decent one. the only really great one is the first, with III being awesome in it's own completely different way
Nothing can beat Suspiria imho. Edits: Also Audition is incredible albeit extremely sadistic with possibly the hottest villain ever, its a truly messed up movie. Almost anything by David Cronenberg: Dead Ringers (a personal favorite but not traditional horror), Scanners, Videodrome, etc. Cronenberg never lost his chops really.
Only "tradition" is to watch the Great Pumpkin and ending up eating the majority of candy waiting to be handed out to trick or treaters. I think this year I'll dig out Shaun of the Dead and Tokyo Zombie to watch. Zombies and comedy go hand in hand!
Roses are red. Violets are blue The Iris is the Flower That will be the END OF YOUUUUUU!! http://youtube.com/watch?v=_8zbV_fFkYs
ps: What were you doing last week? I bet not meeting Dario Argento. Sadly, none of me, I was photographer for this one.
What could be cooler than being stabbed in the face by Dario Argento (besides having him actually film the stabbing with like a spiralling slow motion shot or something)? I'm so envious right now.
I have to concede that having Asia as your Nurse afterwards would, in fact, be very cool, but being stabbed in the face by her dad secures your place in history as the guy who was there when Dario FINALLY flipped out and stabbed someone in the face. Now if Asia is more of a "naughty nurse" then yeah I'd take Asia over being stabbed by her dad but its a close call.
For a great Halloween book, I would recommend DARK HARVEST by Norman Partridge. It just came out in paperback on Tuesday and I read it in one sitting! Damn good book. It just won the Bram Stoker award and is up for a few other awards (if that matters to you).
So jealous of Missy & Skyler meeting Argento. Thanks for all the responses, I'm keeping a list of all movies/books so keep them coming. I dug some paperbacks out of my shelves that I'd like to give away. I enjoyed all of them and don't feel like I'm giving away any stinkers. Nothing obscure, but if you'd like one (and only one per member) post which one you want here then pm me with the book you chose and your address. I'll mail them out this weekend, shipping is on me. These are freebies: 1. The Wolf's Hour by Robert McCammon 2. Usher's Passing by Robert McCammon 3. The Colorado Kid by Stephen King (not horror but crime/mystery) 4. The Descent by Jeff Long 5. The Everlasting by Tim Lebbon 6. Berserk by Tim Lebbon Check out White and Other Tales of Ruin by Lebbon, I love this guy's short stories and this is my favorite collection. Thanks again!
1. Dario was a gentle sweet man. He is even vegetarian. And I saw him hugging George Romero and was so excited to see him that he crawled under his table to do so. 2. I am pretty convinced that the majority of you walk around with raging boners most of the time thinking of bouncing boobies and naughty nurses. ew.
