A complete deck to this day only costs $100-$125 a complete deck with trucks wheels grip everything.
For the record it came to about $300 after the shipping and whatnot. Still, it's nice, I only wanted one, and I can't claim to have never won anything now
After this post in IG it would not be surprising that Hip Hop and Reggaeton stars will begin to collect HxS and now these pieces would never be available to mere mortals.
A sneaking suspicion which I share but not one I am willing to test out!
Love Murakami. I wish his stuff was more accessible.
Compared to many other contemporary artists, he's actually quite accessible IMO. Of course, that still may not be accessible enough. But given his stature and length of his career, his prices are an absolute BARGAIN compared to newjack* HxS.
*While I did intend for that to have negative connotations, I actually really like a good deal of HxS's work. I just don't think the prices are at all warranted. But I'm not griping about his prices either - more power to him to get his! I'll just throw my money at someone I like more.
So, as some of you already noticed, I'm super new and know nothing about collecting.
I have a humble collection of vinyls I liked because they were fun and/or I liked the character design.
Only buy what I like, and only sell when I have to- and sofubi are usually the last things I'd sacrifice.
So, just barely getting to that stage of fandom where I'm learning the names of certain creators (behind company titles).
Often thanks to the knowledge of some of you on these forums.
But, usually I just find stuff because I'll be browsing through toys, randomly clicking on certain figures that catch my eye.
And it's always Hirota Saigansho.
Every. Stupid. Time.
And then I come across this thread, and it's like this whole legendary ongoing saga!
The horniness for his toys is hilarious, and I am 100% in agreement, though very sad to learn his secondary market is swarming with scalpers.
And I guess the attempts to purge the flippers has created even MORE drama banning people?
Sounds like the only way to get new releases is lotteries on Instagram?
Sorry, I did my best to sort of just skim this massive thread to understand the history a little.
And why does his name show up on toys from other companies?
Pilot Ace / Medicom Harryhousen figures?
Tyranobo from Cojica?
He did those too?
No wonder I loved all those .
Anyway, going back to the beginning of this whole thread.
Literally every figure in this image are all tied for first place as the GOAT.
First rule of Skulldrain: You don't "just skim" the massive threads. The Nag and HxS threads are like grand novels, to be savoured and experienced in full.
I just came across it night before last.
It got a little discouraging in the angry sections.
But, you’re right- shortcuts are for the weak.
Forgive my ignorance. I shall attempt to *gulp*... give reading a chance.
You got no chance in hell if that's the case!
Embrace the anger . . . it keeps you warm at night!
Pshhh, that's like saying "Dostojevski gets a little discouraging in the depressing sections." Read!! READ & LEARN ALL ZE HARSH TRUTHS!!1!
And here I thought reading the full thread's worth of bullshit was only for sad chaps with a lot of free time at work, like yours truly
For real though, there's good knowledge tucked away here. Probably something interesting to learn every few pages at points.
In other news Hirota accidentally pocket dialled a live stream on instagram yesterday. It was some well recorded pitch blackness receiving countless thumbs up and love heart emojis througout.
Yeah, I had just started following him, and that was the first thing that happened
Only, I was just sending laughter and WTFs because it was silly.
Would have been interesting (though, likely boring) to know what they were talking about.
Heart heart heart want NEED heart prayer hands heart
If anyone wanted the Proust of forum threads those would be it by far. Worth the read.
I am really on the fence with how I criticize these toys because I really see the value in the work Hirota San puts into his work but also eff-off and go with a gallery if the prices are getting so damn high and abusive, there need be assurances for collectors at that stage. We have systems in other areas of collecting that can help ameliorate the stress that it can bring. Then again, I just stopped collecting bc I’m not chinese-middle-class rich.
As for it’s surge in pricing, think about NNN for a close comparison it is just cute that it is so expensive and part of the ‘it’ appeal of it, with HxS is not getting any better and doesn’t help it’s concept at all. The last show announced in Shanghai seems to point towards a pushead move of collectors and tiers of them. Or at the very least it points where his main collector base is heading
I can’t believe I just used all the hypest brands in two lines :B
I do love this thread and participating in it. I think without SB I would’ve stopped giving a dang about most of these brands by now, but the arguing is so much fun.
If I didn't already have a quote as my signature...
@SpectralNight fyi I don't believe Hirota has had anything to do with Cojica. You might be mixing up "Tyranno" and "Tyranbo". The Pilot Ace Harryhausen toys are also not the same as Hirota's relatively recent sculpts for Medicom. So I'm glad you dig his designs, but I assure you, he doesn't secretly have a hand in every toy you like
I know he pulled and painted them . . . did he definitely sculpt 'em?
Take a drink every time I fall into the "Of course he does everything himself!" trap
I got no idea if he did or didn't but would've thought theyd've blown up more than they did with the new wave if he had.
Hirota didn’t sculpt ‘em. I can’t remember who I was told did, but he only recently brought them back through Medicom with the Pilot Ace molds after they went defunct, and he got permission to use them. I’m not sure if he’s painting the entire runs, though. Or if he presents a sample and they’re factory painted.
I don't know my Pilot Ace too well, but just the cyclops looks very different to the Medicom one. Totally different proportions. Don't think they're the same moulds.
@zindabad Ill have to look at ‘em again, but the only difference I could see was the club wielding arm that was teased by Pilot Ace, but never brought to fruition. I’ve also yet to see a photo of a side by side between PA and Hirota’s pulls. If they are different proportions/sizes, they might’ve just recast them from the original vinyl for new molds, which would shrink ‘em down just a bit.
