Here is the set-up I purchased off eBay. Extra Tank is good. The motor doesn't have to constantly run since there is a secondary tank. this one is 1/5 HP. I would say more the better HP especially if you ever need to use an airgun for that crazy Urethane coating..

New poster here with a potentially newbie question... Kaiju-Taro does not have V-Color listed as in stock anymore... I bought some Max ToyCo unpainted vinyls with the intention of painting them before doing any research into if there was anything special for working with vinyl, but I've been told I really do need V-color if I am going to paint vinyl toys. Is there another place online to buy V-Color and get it in the US?

    EDIT: I found this thread:
    viewtopic.php?f=19&t=29316
    So I am boned?

Anybody ever try fishing lure paint? Comes in a powder form that you heat and use, also a liquid "vinyl paint'. I was looking at some lures today and noticed similar colors, bright green-blues, flourescent colors etc. I saw a bunch of it at Gander Mountain. The package said "for wood, metal and hard plastics"....that's about all I know about it. Looked like it might be fun. Airbrushable also...

Fun fact: the very same factories that produce the vinyl figures we know and love also pull vinyl fishing lures. In fact, almost every time I go out there, they're pulling lures.

    The more you know!

on a side note, upon further inspection the fishing lure paint would probably not work...it or the object has to be heated up...I forget which. They have some awesome colors though

Hmm, if I recall, don't they also make fishing lures in the same factories soft vinyl toys are made?

Does anyone have a list of the VC colors with the numbers? I've got some random colors but would like to know what I'm missing.

I have found alternative colors to V-COLOR.
I bought them in a chemical factory producing toys ink.
they are dilutable with acetone or ethyl acetate.
    are non-toxic (after dry).
I also have V-color, but I prefer my Italian!

I use HI-GLOSS for soft vinyl produced by Kiian
    http://www.kiian.com/prodotti/prodotti/screen-printing-inks.aspx?language=en-US
I am no expert and only recently used the airbrush.
Since the V-COLOR now are not shipped to Italy too, I have tried in Italy this .
the advice that I read are still useful, thanks

Also, following the advice of D-lux I tried Tamiya on vinyl, since the local hobby store carries it and I've been using it on resin. I had heard in the Gargamel Lucky Bag thread, Kozik used it on his Zags and they were tacky. But the Tamiya I used, had a nice finish, dry and not tacky, and I didn't coat it with anything.

I have been having great luck with golden acrylics and createx transparent paints. I miss the instant cure time of v-color, because now I have to keep a hair dryer handy to speed things up.

anyone see that dead presidents is coming out with his own line of paint !!!

I knew about it maybe a month ago. Matt's being really tight lipped and all he could tell me was "soon...." I'm pretty eager to get my hands on some of his paints. The question is, what to get.

    That is awesome news!

On a side note, and maybe someone here can answer this for me. Why do they use Ben Franklin as their logo when Franklin wasn't a President?

I think it's because the term Dead Presidents refers to money. It has nothing to do with Presidents.

I tried the Golden too and it worked well. But I was having some issues thinning it, what have you been using? I tried Cratex too (no transparents) and days later water took it right off.

I use golden's airbrush medium to thin the golden paints. I also use the transparency extender medium for the iradescent silver it makes the silver pop better.

definitely need to use a clear coat like krylon if your painting with any acrylics, they will chip or rub off easily. after i'm done spraying I heat set the paint with a hair dryer, let it sit for an hour or two then hit it with 1 coat of clear coat

using acrylics to paint vinyl takes quite a bit more time and more steps than with v-color =[

    V-color
silver or gold paint > transparents > done !!!

    Acrylics
primer > dry time > black base coat> dry time> silver > dry time > transparent > dry time > clear coat> dry time...... and so on

not taking into account for both scenarios if your doing any rubs, or other effects.

So I just got 20 bottles of vcolor and 2 tins of thinner... old stash in-country. Has anybody heard if the rules are being relaxed about this yet? I mean, tamiya is still at one of our local hobby stores - seems unfair.
