My friend just picked this up in Japan. 9" and unmarked. I know it looks familiar, and I think there might have been reissues or homages, perhaps in smaller size (and I don't know the manufacturer of those either). Can someone please enlighten me on the history of this toy so I can pass on the info? Thanks.

Ahh, thanks! So it's known as Tetran, and Hukkokudo did a full size issue (and Gargamel did a smaller one). So are these based on a pachi vintage figure? Cause my friend's is vintage, I believe. I do remember seeing a vintage Beralgon on YJ before and losing the auction. I can't remember if the auction listed a manufacturer, and I can't find my saved photos of it right now.

I always see the majority of the Hukko toys referred to as IKB reissues, I have no idea if that's accurate for the Tetran or not though. Regardless, a mighty fine toy as David has stated.

I bet @kichigai would have the answer for us.

I'll take it off their hands for $10.

Miura Toy is the name of the company that made the original figure. Gargamel came up with the name 'Tetran' when they created their mini; the original was just called "Space Kaiju 1/2" (I can't recall offhand if this was 1 or 2- 'Beralgon' was the other one). I have heard that Japanese collectors informally call this one "Daiya [Diamond] Kaiju" and 'Beralgon' the "Tsuwa [Wrinkle] Kaiju".

(This figure can go for prices in the low hundreds depending on condition, just FYI.)

Very nice vintage original. Space Kaiju 2 I believe aka Diamond Monster. I concur with Daniel, but I'll buy it for $15

The reissue by Hukkokudo can be seen here (third from left)

Thanks, all, You are a wealth of knowledge. BTW, the original Beralgon had a similar color scheme to the green one, third from right. It was a beauty I felt sad about losing out on.

Yeah the green/orange colors on the Beralgon were the same on the vintage original also. Your friend should just give you this toy lol.

Jealous of that Mighty! You rarely see one with such clean paint.

From what I know, the Diamond kaiju seems to be part of a set of 4, along with the wrinklie kaiju...the other two toys are as weird and amazing as the Diamond one. These other two toys also stand in all fours. There are several pictures in other parts of SB that have a info on these amazing toys.. @Mark K I love that Daikyo.

Don't forget Space Kaiju No. 3! (There's actually 5 standards total from Miura.)

That is a killer score on the Space Kaiju Myles. I don't have anything further to add that hasn't already been said here, so why not bequeath on us the story of this particular fella? Or, you know, just send him to me, and I'll make up my own.

Killer lineup Mark. You do sure know how to pop in a thread and just crush it. ^_^
