I was born in Spain. I have a Spanish Mother ( maiden name Cebrian Sanchez de Giganto) and an american dad. They split up b4 I was born so I spent 90% of my first 14 years in Toledo and Madrid. Summers in Benidorm on the coast. I would occasionally stay with my Dad so, for example I spent a year (1969) in England (Cambridge) and a few visits to America. My older cousin was a competitive sailboat racer so each summer we would go to competitions so I went to Poland, Yugoslavia, Morrocco,Libya.France. Denmark etc many times in the early 1970's. As I got older and became a person I got very unhappy with my bizaare 1/2 nazi 1/2 commie family and when in 1976 my Dad offered for me to come live permanently in the USA I went for it. Ended up in Sacramento. My old man turned out to be quite the douche so I secretly dropped out of school, got a job and bought a car. This took about a year. Once I got the car I split and basically lived out of it or various crash pads between 1977-78. In 79 I went back to europe and bummed around on a rail pass for about 6 months, dealing dope and so on. eventually, I ran out of money and came back to northern california, got in some trouble and joined the air force at 18 to get away from it. spent 4 years in, time in Mississppi, georgia, central america and ended up in Austin just in time for Punk Rock (1980). in '83 when I got out I stayed and had normal jobs, and went back to Spain once in a while when I had some extra dough. In austin I started doing posters for pun bands which eventually led to a full time career starting in 1988. In 1993 I moved out here to SF and started a record label and design and printing business, which at its peak had 18 employees. It was a that time I started ging top Japan a lot (mid 90's) doing commercial ad work and fashion clothes stuff in Tokyo. Arpound 200 2 things happenned: I shut down the label and print shop and I started doing vinyl toys (first with BxH and then Medicom) as I had a feeling it would 'be something'. I came back and stopped doing all commercial work to do the toys full time. 2002-2003 where very titgh hungry years, then in 2004 it all clicked and took off. those are the basics. its WAY more complex.
Frank, you were in Austin in 1980??? Man,what a scene they had in the early 90's:MDC,Big Boys,Kamikaze Refrigerators,Rauls Club. Texas as a whole with others like Butthole Surfers and Really Red and the Dicks too!!! Tell me you still have some of the records?
I was never a record collector. I was into LIVE SHOWS. that energy.... I probably went to 3-5 shows a week all during the 80's. saw all those bands a milloin times , knew them all personally. it was a small community. fucking great times. a lot of them are dead now.
i mean butthole surfers, fuck dude I worked stage security for them all over texas. I saw them before they where BHS. like when the where Ashtray babyhead and played afternoon shows for...no one basically. lol. good times.
man...if I ever get started on 'punk rock' stories. lol. like..how about a backyard Crucifucks show? or Husker Du in thebasement under Voltaire's Books? or GG allin in my buddies living room smearing shit all over himself? Or the Circle Jerks or a million billion retarded fucking shows. it was awesome.
Let's talk again Frank. I'll pm you later and again thanks for letting us visit for a couple of hours a week ago. I love the Crucifucks!!! That Doc Dart was a fucking weird dude.
Dam you've done some livin Frank. You been all over this planet mang. If you ever plan on doing a bio book I'm deff down for a copy...
whatever yup, definitely would be an interesting kozik autobiography---hoping there would be tons of pages on the punk scene experience!!
sorry. the fight was over. darn right it was - 15 on 1 makes the fight over fast! i'm hoping i posted this note in the right place...??? or should it have gone in the buy/sell/trade section? i am only here to sell you stuff. i haven't collected toys for YEARS. they are sooooo over! i got out just in the nick of time too. darn dunneez killed it all for everybody! now quit looking here and get back to telling people what to do you darn booger eaters!
More broadsides at the entire community and attempts to stir the shit. Are SBers harassing people over at the Circus Punks BBS or something? Maybe an imaginary Skullbrainer pissing in your Cheerios this morning Paul? Sorry man it must be rough.
Can't forget the Offenders - one of the greatest punk rock bands ever. We used to play with them all the time. Their bass player Mikey Donaldson (who unfortunately just passed away) was a fucking monster. Austin in the '80's rocked - we'd always make sure to have a few days off on tour just to hang out.
Normal people let these things go when they're over. Especially such small things. Deep breaths. You're going to get through this. Why is "to each their own" is so hard to accept? Try and describe the difficulty. The irony. A hairy sack.
Attention KJB, what band were you in?? If you lived in Milwaukee in the 80 i would guess 10-96(Kenosha),Tar Babies,Mecht Mencsh,Suburban Mutilation,Die Kruezen....am I missing anyone??(I know I am).
Die Kreuzen. We played with all those other guys at one time or another - all great bands. (though, technically, Mecht Mensch and the Tar Babies were from Madison, and SuM from Green Bay). I still see Rev. Norb from SuM occasionally.
