...with huge hands/gloves like this??? ...and that huge helmet always have to think of him: dont know whether it had to be a vcd figure. to me these look funny in a uninteresting way. a medicom fig that looks more realistic like the known poster would have been much more exciting. me cant wait to get one or two hasheeme´s!!! to group with the lonely one here...
wow...in one week, two different KAWS pieces that speak to me....I surely hope this isn't a sign of worse things to come!!
Impressive, most impressive. Going to be my first KAWS piece. First Goga yesteday and now this branching out from real head isn't feeling to bad yet....yet.
I know Im in the minority but Im not digging it. I rather buy a Darth Tater and paint red xs on the eyes.
Having taken Pogue's advise from an earlier thread and stopped considering KAWS an artist but rather a marketer I actually like the piece. Its black and companionish so I'll likely try to get one. Unoriginal and repetitive as his work is there are some pieces I really enjoy (5YL, 99s, Dissected). I like this piece but only because I have very minimal expectations from KAWS now and realize he doesn't take many (or any) artistic or creative risks.
Well I have a fairly large and expensive collection of KAWS vinyl, imho he began treading water a long time ago and I was unable to enjoy his work as it became stale and boring to me. If I view his work as pure fluff I can enjoy some of it (this piece for example) because I expect zero substance whereas if I expect art with any depth from KAWS I am continuously disappointed. If you still don't understand what I'm saying you probably never will. I agree its a cool piece but its not innovative.
Krudler - I know where you're coming from (though I still have a small amount of respect for him as an artist). He had two paintings recently that were quite different than his normal body of work. While I didn't like the paintings at all I appreciated the attempt. But the toys have become so lazy and aren't based on his artwork anymore - I think that's my main problem with them. YAWN. I'm STILL waiting for something new and good from KAWS.
