i guess i understand a little better... he was once an artist in your eyes before and you were collecting his "art". now he's more "toy designer" a la Kozik (at least i think that's waht you mean)

    HOLY CRAP!!!!!

This is the first time I'm seeing it. I've heard he wasn't that great from a few people that have seen him, but this looks great to me.

    ONE per person

Sorry; companionish is not an english word really. I just meant it was a toy that looked like a KAWS companion in Darth Vader's armor.

I like the Companions and probably would buy the thing especially since I have more of the Black KAWS colourways.

At one point I did view him as an artist but he never really seemed to expand his range and now he doesn't seem to care at all. It was pointed out in an earlier thread that KAWS was more of a "marketer".

Somehow seeing him in this light allowed me to appreciate some of his work again.

I think Kozik has more range btw and he's willing to take risks.

Biskup manages to make toys yet I consider him a true artist who keeps pushing himself as well. I guess I'm just disappointed that KAWS is so redundant.

I like the 5YL Companions and the Dissections and own most of them.
Fortunately, this does absolutely nothing for me.

I think this is the best (most useful) comparison. I like Kaws but the toys and clothes have had a lessing effect on his art.

I think it easy to say you dont think someone is an artist because hes not what one would consider a "traditional artist"

graffiti, much like punk rock, has its ramones and its fugazis.(he is most definitly a graffiti artist btw people forget that)

some artists were meant to expand and change the idea. some were meant to just do what they know and do best. they dont need to change or expand on anything. classic and timeless.

I'd say most people who critcize Kaws really ,really wish they had thought of it before he did.

I see KAWS as an icon similar to the Disney icon he based his character on. Either you're a hater or a lover. Nothing new coming out of the Disney camp either just different outfits for Mickey. i'm a fan of both. My question is, how much did Medicom have to pay Lucas to do this? Can they really recoup expenses with this if it's so limited? Smells like a pirated run to me which makes me want it more.

Thats true for sure. There's a lot of the old "I could do that!".
The way I see it, the strength of the characters that he's imitating is that they don't change, and if he changed his too much it wouldn't be a "brand".

This is the only Kaws toy that has interested me in any way (except for the pushead one, but that's because Pushead made it look cool). I think I like this because it's Vader and it's pretty difficult to make a Vader toy that sucks. There's something wrong with the helmet, though. It just isn't shaped correctly. The flared part doesn't have the proper angle or something. Perhaps this is the only way they could get it to work with those bones sticking out? I'd buy this if it was affordable, so I'll be purchasing this right after hell freezes over. Thanks for posting the pics, though.

I thought of that too. I think it would HAVE to go through Lucas, Medicom has a big relationship with them and I doubt they'd risk it for a KAWS piece. Medicom makes more money of Star Wars. Surprisingly Lucas can be cool about some stuff like this, I mean look at Robot Chicken.

Love the full body, got to get this crap. I think it'll be even harder than standard KAWS stuff because I'm sure rabid Star Wars fans who have no interest in KAWS :):cough cough:: ME) will want this thing too.

Same thing for those who dislike the Labbit though?

Finding KAWS new work tedious isn't aesthetics or boredom or valid criticism but rather jealousy?

When dealing with any negative criticism simply find an excuse to invalidate it.

Jealousy works well here. If someone had just thought of the "Brillo Box" first they'd have Andy Warhol's career. Not likely but whatever.

Actuallly, If he did a whole series of pop culture icon toys on the same KAWS 'chassis', they would look amazing all lined up in row . (Vader, Astroboy, something Kimpson, etc.)
