This is exactly why I'm hesitant to step into most 'prestige' ventures these days. 10 eps to tell 4 hours worth of story is too painful for me.
A French anime feature based on a manga series of the same name, written and drawn by Jiro Taniguchi (which was itself based on a novel by Baku Yumemakura). Its a severely truncated version of Taniguchi's epic five volume manga, but they keep the core of the story intact. The animation is very good, the way nature is represented, the extreme weather and incredible views. Its very realistic and beautifully painted. I thought the English dub was also done well ...
It reminded me of another unusual one, in its portrayal of the power of nature, 'The Red Turtle' from 2016. A collaboration between Studio Ghibli and various French/dutch animation houses. There's no dialogue and the animation is incredible ... its like nothing else I've ever seen. Very original.
Did anyone else enjoy Station Eleven as much as I did? Mid way through it felt like a season of the walking dead without the zombies, but it all came together really well. Highly suggest it if you're looking for something to binge this weekend.
^ Yes. I didn't for a moment get WD vibes, for what its worth, but on paper I'd be against a lot of what could probably describe what the show was "about," surface-wise. Turns out I loved every minute of it right down to the fully stuck landing. The approach and execution was genuinely unique for television and truly magic to experience unfolding. Great, great stuff.
Yeah, loving Peacemaker. Also Demon Slayer Entertainment district arc, I’ll be honest this arc was getting a little too slapstick for me, and I found myself wishing for the return of Jujutsu Kaisen. But last weeks episode made up for it. Maybe the single best Demon Slayer episode yet.
That intro to Peacemaker is so great! Just thinking about the actors being told about having a few days rehearsals to learn that dance. I love it!
I never saw a second of Cena's wrestling career, but I can't think of a single thing I've seen him in post wrestling that I didn't like.
Hoping to check out the whole of the final run this week; I'll get back to you! Was just tipped to South Side a few days ago. Hilarious so far!
Just watched it. Overall, I thought it was good. I have very few complaints throughout the entire series. Certainly a much better ending - and departure from the original source material - than some shows. I have to wonder if they're planning a spin-off, though. Including the (heavily modified) Duarte story line in S6 seems rather odd if they don't have something up their sleeve. It added very little to (and maybe detracted from?) the series as a whole, and especially to the season. If its inclusion isn't laying the groundwork for a spin-off it should have been scrapped.
Also watched "Summit of the Gods" Really great anime. If I wasn't sure before, I now know, I'll never go rock climbing. I am quite content not risking my life for fun.
Started SP on a whim a few nights ago and got locked in quick. Heard good things in passing (and RT scores high), but wasn't expecting it to be such a nice surprise quality-wise. Cracked S4 last night. Most interested to see how Dory's story plays out. Hope that's a 'good' kray-zee... will find out soon. Movie-wise, Hulu's been my go-to recently. Couple notable gems: Pig Border (Gräns) Dogman Jacob's Ladder (OG rewatch /still holds up)
I am very sad that the show is over. 6 episodes for the final season was too short. At least we got to see Amos in a rocket chair! (2:05)
Agreed. I'm curious why they cut the TV series short. It's not like JAC weren't going to complete the book series before the show caught up and had to start making shit up a la some other bullshit project...
Sounds like it was a money decision, they can have 6 or nothing. Reminds me of when they offered Deadwood 6 more episodes, and he turned them down. I started watching the final series last night and I'm loving it already. My brother has been bugging me to start watching it, and when I told him this one was only six episodes he hadn't been aware of that, and he got quite pissy. It was funny. He said he was four in and he's got no idea how they can wrap it up that quickly!
