I can't believe you two don't like the gangsta look and the little ass crack. That being said..I would easily and without hesitation drop 300-400 on his art which is amazing...I just don't get the toys.
I like it. If they make this and the base helps it stand on it's own then I dig it. The base doesn't look too intrusive but yeah I can see why this would be more of a statue than a toy. Maybe a resin figure? The pictures don't really show all the details so it's hard to really form an opinion about this figure at the moment.
Definitely a sculpture . . . better than having to display it in its box but still makes it an easy pass!
hasadhu is big, almost size of a kaws 5yl. the details are incredible which make vinylization very difficult. hopefully they are successful in the tests. but i wonder how much they will have to retail it for...
Joes right, it's at least 12" tall. So far it looks like doing it in vinyl will be difficult as the hard edge lines will be lost so it might end up a cold cast statue. Also the lettering Usugrow uses will be added to the shaft of the brush and the base along with a lotus between the feet.
Generally like it but the skull looks wrong compared to the artwork...lacks detailing around the teeth. Interested to see how this one pans out and if it ever makes it into production - and more so if he brings it over the UK for the next Shinganist show
Upper Playground is having a sale (50%) on all their items and they have a lot of his prints (+t-shirts and book of course). http://shop.upperplayground.com/#vi...ize=32&currSort=sort_order&sortDirection=desc
I got the books last week and took the time to go through them over the weekend. Usugrow'a art is amazing, I wish that he actually desing a toy someday, not just translate existing art in vinyl. R.I. and S.I and that statue above looks to stiff to be toys in my eyes. The Toshikazu Nozaka part of the Shinganist book is the best for me. I want more !
The only part that looks impossible for vinyl molds is the loop on the pen as far as I can see. I like this lots regardless weather it's a toy, art, statue, paper weight, vinyl, resin , or paper Mache. For a safe "no art" toy experience I recommend http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?c ... Even that could be up for debate ! You can enjoy skull with ass-crack and dead Manekin Piss as much as you want, no hurt
