it's finally arrived in chicago (at landmark century theater), and i thought maybe we could rally around a sushi themed outing involving some serious face-stuffing and a documentary about the illustrious jiro. i doubt it'll be playing for very long, and something tells me that by the time we've agreed and finalized on a plan, the film will be gone, and the fish will be rotten so, who's in for some rancid sushi?
Just have to say, I saw jiro dreams of sushi, and it was so interesting. Beautifully done. AND it makes you violently hungry
I saw it too, and then went to go get sushi afterwards. You would think that would be a good idea, but it ended up actually being mildly disappointing. The movie did a fantastic job reminding me that I will never have sushi as good as what Jiro can prepare.
michelle thought it was only playing through last thursday, and that we'd missed it... good to know that it's still playing. we're definitely wanting to see this one, so the two of us are in!
I'm up for a sushi movie and a sushi dinner. Ultimately it will come down to how much everything will cost. I don't have a lot of spending money at the moment, so if anything I might just order something separately from the group as I don't want to not have enough money for my share of the bill. How long will the movie still be showing? Do you have a link to the times and dates scheduled? I'm free pretty much anytime any day still, except for this Saturday and the following depending on the time chosen.
i just checked out the landmark website (god, why cant i see a week's schedule at a glance? it's not like you guys show THAT many freaking movies!), and it looks like thurdsay of this week is the last day it is showing. so if we're going, it's going to have to be this week, and it's going to have to happen before friday. looks like shows are daily at 2:15, 4:25, 7:15 & 9:30. shit. and not to particularly talk poorly of lakeview, but i don't think there are any good sushi places around the landmark. shit. shit.
this isn't going to work out it seems: not enough time to plan, and agreed, no good sushi near that spot. maybe we'll just have to do movie night when it comes out on disc. i'll bring over some fancy maki-making utensiles (read: a bamboo roller) and we can have ourselves a diy maki + movie event. i'm just throwing out ideas. or how about lucha va voom?
Oh Shazbot! I was looking forward to a good sushi movie followed by a yummy sushi dinner... Ah well, no worries. A make your own sushi night sounds like fun! I have a pair of sushi plate sets that I can bring as well (only two though).. The only thing that may or may not be difficult is to find some sushi-grade fish. If we would only get one, I'd vote for tuna, but I am not opposed to other types as well (i.e. salmon, striped bass, yellowtail, scallop, etc) Unagi however I'd rather just get from the restaurant. I'm salivating just thinking about it! Also, what is this "Lucha Vavoom" that you speak of Bill? For whatever reason, I cannot open that website confound it!
sushi grade fish? dirk's fish market on clybourn, just south of webster. awesome place. nowhere near anyone. =p
