Took a couple of fancy guys outside yesterday--Anraku Ansaku Public Hazard Cadmium, and the new (and final) Alien Hunter DX.

I'm very happy with some of these shots and less happy with others--you can probably tell which. The dense silver flake on Public Hazard is really tough to capture, and I probably needed softer lighting conditions for that one. Part of the problem is a lot of the filters I use will increase local contrast to make the photo 'pop', and that tends to make toys like this look messier. Still, I think the beauty of this release still comes through somewhat.

Alien Hunter DX photographs nicely, but there are some beautiful layered metallic reds around the arms that I don't think will come out without proper editing, maybe controlled lighting. Hell, I couldn't even see them until I took the toy outside. Photography success or no, I'm glad I got to see more facets of these toys and appreciate them more as a result. It's why I keep doing this :)

Cloudy/overcast days are the best! Sunny days are made for struggling with high contrast.
