I've not been bitten hard by the RxH bug, and I am out on the fringe of whats happening with their toys; that being the case, I beg your pardons if this has been discussed to death already, but...What is going on with all the RH sales on the board? Over the past few months, big collections of both new and old toys have been transferred here and I'm curious if it is more of a reflection of the economy or a general change of attitude in collectors of RH. On one hand, it is great that new collectors are getting the opportunity to pick up some of the older and more sought after toys, but on the other it seems strange that toys that people were once obviously interested are no longer that appealing or important. It just seems like RH is getting a lot more transfer of ownership than any other line. Are there just more toys to sell and the numbers make it seem like there is more turnover? Any thoughts?
Well I think it's partially because of the financial times people are in but I also think it's part of the process. If you recall quite a few months back the same thing happened with Secret Base. I think there was a lot of hype around RxH so people got caught up in buying stuff.
The sell-off of the recent releases does not surprise me at all with the way people were buying at the beginning of this year. But why are people selling off their 2005-06 RxH releases?
Personally for me RxH has let me down recently. With the release of a new mini every 3 days, and the fact that they remind me of the toys we do not speak of around here, that's the biggest dissapointment. Another thing is the fact that Mori said he doesn't want anyone selling customs of his toys anymore. That just pissed me off because I love customizing rxh, they're such great toys to paint, that it just turned me off with the thought, not even that I've ever sold any, just that I couldn't sell something in my possession even if I wanted to. To top it off, I see established customizers making rxh customs that supposedly "aren't for sale" and then magically they end up in other people's collections. Are these people giving these customs away? Doubt it. I just don't hold the same respect for the company as a whole any more.
So this is the second time you are attempting the "RxH mini-toys we do not speak" of corollary. Spectacularly moronic commentary. As ususal.
not what I'm talking about at all. I said they remind me of d-u-nnys. The rxh minis have come out so fast and in such high quantities that I relate the as one in the same TYPE of toy. I don't know why my opinion is "moronic"
RxH customs that end up in my collecting do so by way of trades for customs. 1 for 1 custom trade. As a matter of fact, one of the RxH custom pieces I have was almost given to me but I insisted that I paint something in return. The only money involved is the buying of the figure to paint and the shipping to the other person for exchange. Some people know, I would gladly paint something in exchange for toys. Some reasons why people are selling their RxH: 1 To make room 2 It doesn't fit in with the rest of my collection 3 I'm broke 4 A grail came up and I need the money 5 RxH after market value has dropped and I missed my chance to sell them at peak value so I'm just going to unload them now (buying with the intent of selling later on) 6 I don't care for RxH anymore cause I can't get customs painted by (insert painter here)...so I'm going to sell what I have Those are what I've seen so far...with the first 4 being reasons why anyone would sell anything in their collection. The 2 bottom reasons are just speculation...and a feeling of resentment towards RxH.
I think the idea behind the 'no rxh' selling was that Mori didn't want to see rxh pieces that were painted up in art shows and other places. I think it was a grey area and acceptable to do commissions for people and/or trades but to just paint rxh figures and sell them...was considered taboo. Most people who are fans of rxh are pretty respectable towards his wishes. I don't think it's an outrageous idea imo.
Its moronic because during your second attempted comparison of RxH minis to [expletive deleted], it STILL makes zero sense. But that isn't nearly as ridiculous as saying "I've lost respect for the company, because its not ok to sell customs of their characters."
I sold a bunch back in March-ish due to medical bills and some other big things hitting at once, LUCKILY I didn't have to sell less than retail than. Sold almost all of the ones I had. After that, I just could NOT get back into it. I love the toys, and would get a new one and just not feel the need to keep going. Now that I have a full bruised set and full (og4) S7 set, I lost motivation to go back and re-claim all the ones I had, which I could now with the big sell offs, but don't feel the urge. Also, I loss motivation due to wanting to branch out more and get a more varied collection. A lot of people here get on a kick to just get 1 sculpt/line/color and I think, later on, regret that and start selling and switching things up. I dunno, I'd say lots of the reasons mentioned in above posts are dead on. People got burned out, to some it was just a "rare toy thing" and others overstretched their funds in this recession/holiday season and just need the cash.
i started collecting rxh at the worst possible time when prices were sky high. i guess if weren't for the hype i wouldn't have known about rxh. it's been about half a year since i've bought my first figure and i still haven't lost interest. new releases still excite me. i'm happy to see prices fall and rare figures being offered for sale. it was fun chasing rxh figures when i first started but i like how it is now. let the horde rxh sell threads continue
I think the too many too fast (and especially too many subpar releases) issues are strongest. When a small production (ie, not even painted by Mori) toy costs $60, you're willing to go guns blazing head on, as long as the quality is there and the releases are nicely spaced out. You might even want to stay completist on a character. But when there's release after release, including some bad eggs and TOO MANY blanks, you start looking at your collection differently. You give up on the goal of being complete and just focus on the versions you love. So the unloading starts and people complain. But then even MORE releases come at an even FASTER rate. And the unloading accelerates, prices plummet, and the figures (some of which are excellent pieces) become almost unsellable, since people are worried that a toy they bought for $50 today might be had for $40 next week from another collector. So, that's pretty much how I see it. Still, that doesn't mean RxH is only putting out subpar stuff. There have been excellent releases like the recent blue Chaos and the mini yellow set of Ninja and Popsoda. It's just that there's SO MUCH of everything that people are looking at both old and new releases in a very different light than they were last year. RxH sure isn't dead, but it might be in the emergency room. I'll say it again - I think Mori needs to get back into the game and paint some small runs and one-offs himself to bring back the excitement.
i think there are a lot of reasons why we are seeing more RxH in the sales forums than other lines, many of which have already been said. there have been more RxH releases in the past year or so than some other companies, so there are just more RxH figures out there, probably. the brand has drawn a lot of new collectors over that time as well, for a variety of reasons, and most people in this hobby tend to take a little while to 'find their groove', so people will inevitably buy a lot of toys, and decide that not all of them are up their alley, so they keep some, sell some others. also, people are feeling the economic crunch, and selling some figures can help with finances, as well as passing a nice deal along to somebody else. as for comparing rxh figures to d.unnies, there may be some validity in talking about the pace of releases i suppose, although the brands and products themselves have pretty obvious differences.
I want to know what's going to happen now that the yen has broken 90/1 today. Can prices for new releases be kept at $60?
Thanks for the replies...that is all sort of what I was thinking---kind of a case of "too much of a good thing"... I know that I have a bit of the "completest" nature in me, and am very glad that I don't have to try to keep up with all the RH releases. From a business standpoint, I can't blame Mori for trying to sell more while the interest is there---only makes sense; the downside comes when the collectors that are used to every toy being top-notch get disgruntled with a killer paint application on maybe one of every three releases or so...It can't be easy to balance releases out so that maximum interest is maintained by collectors and still keep your own financial situation moving forward. I really enjoy looking at the pictures of all the great (and less than great) Real Head toys, and will probably end up picking up one or two eventually (those damn Evil minis are so cute!). Hopefully I'll still have a job and money to do so in the next year.
I lost my access to RxH awhile ago and was forced to quit collecting or pay huge premiums to those who still had access. At about the same time Mori permitted me to be cut off Hiddy (SB) and to a lesser extent Naoki (Cronic) did the opposite and made efforts to insure my continued access. RxH earned a great deal of bad will and since I've broken the RxH habit I can't see supporting Mori or RxH in the future. There might be very rare exceptions but I make an effort not to buy RxH on the primary or secondary market. Take my support for granted and it will often be permanently withdrawn and my money spent elsewhere.
