Garadama, I am not implying that Super 7 is not a good choice. It's one of the good choices but not the only one. It just seems the right of the toy maker to sell directly as well, like SB etc. Doesn't hurt and plus side is that they get direct communication with their fans...like the Fan Club for example... RxH having a fan club? I'll join in a heart beat.
Agreed ! I'll write this down, translate it into japanese and show it to Mori on my trip to japan in Dec.
I think we may have to start using Kaiju Mules... any volunteers? garadama? Your on your way over soon right?
I just got back from Mori's shop. Saw the upcoming Bigaro, and it is NICE! So, there's good stuff coming up from Real Head. Saw the Sesame Street set too. Hmm...well, the Count Evil looks nice, in any case! If anyone heads over to the shop in the next day or two, bring Mori some hot soup and wish him well. Guy has a bad cold and still can't take a day off. Gotta take my hat off to the guy, running the entire operation by himself! BTW, a bit of info on the recently released and not-so-rare standard sized Gold Chaos. 100 pieces were made. Of those, 50 were judged to be of poor quality and so discarded. So, 50 went out to the public. Decent sized release, at the end of the day.
Hmmm, I wonder if buying paint direct from kaiju taro will be screwed in these regulations. I need to place an order today just incase.
+2 havent seen any plastic dolls here being worth 20 $. ...9 $ seems about right on most stuff. there is stupid rules like these for years in germany. apart from local toyshops customs second best place to meet all kind of crazy nerds. its fun picking up stuff there - period. havent seen so many people freak out anywere else - awesome drama. dont see much changes for private collectors in the u.s. - same as ur girlfriend, dont expect customs to take ur hobby for real. they are looking for mp 3 players and know nike air jordans dont come cheap, but will send u home fast when u unpack super 7´s subscriber zag...
I think you are ok on the paint. OH and the RxH sell off is kinda simple to understand: 1. As more of any sculpt is produced the demand curve for that sculpt will flatten out. Long term demand and aftermarket value is not just about how many of any one colorway but the total number of sculpts (all colorways combined). 2. A small group of 5-10 people started collecting RxH 12-18 months ago and were willing to run the prices on vintage figures to unsustainable levels. These high prices attracted more buyers at retail with dreams of a big pay off in the future. 3. Price always regress to the mean. These rules are not specific to RxH they effect all collectibles in some manner.
The other reason Mori-san may have alluded to a larger release number, may also have been to hedge any flippers reading the board....to keep prices down for collectors... But I have to say, I haven't seen any Gold Chaos on YJA at all, and only the speckled Chaosman relased that same day...and even that figure has been scarce. Thanks again for the heads up Scott!
I don't get this reaction - really bizarre. Mori is pretty forthcoming with info and release numbers. I'm just passing it on. People want to get pissy about it, then go for it. I'm just telling you what Mori told me. Thought folks would want to know. Sheesh. There are plenty of examples of RxH once thougt rare and then found out not rare at all - like the clear pink with bandana. Heck, I've seen 4-5 of these Gold Chaos figures in person at shops, as part of their personal collections. I also saw one in the bag at Shinto Gangu, but Mori had promised it to someone else. So all told, I can easily see the numbers going to 50. Whatever, I haven't got a vested interest one way or another, but I'm going to take Mori's word over speculation.
I wouldn't think Mori would lie about a release. The gold chaos didn't sell that high in the second market if you compare with the lower run RxH that gets sold in the same week of release. Well rare or not (in this case for me it doesn't affect me as much), I love the mini gold over the regular any day.
I think Mori's friends list extends to all the stores and people that work with Mori, which is understandable. I'm guessing a few may have also been sold outside of the con, through the Japanese RxH distro network. Mori was really explicit about the QC issues with the release and the amt he had to sideline because of that problem. He also repeated the numbers several times, so I'm thinking they're solid. But yeah there are a growing number of Japanese RxH hardcore collectors as well, plus flippers aren't so focused on the company anymore, so I don't think YJA is as good a gauge for this stuff as it used to be.
I'm quite curious too. But it seems a Fresh Meat here on the boards was able to get one easily. And for those that don't know, the Gold Chaos was painted on a Gold Lame base. That would have been a cool Unpainted one for sure.
