Download the '777 mix' by PB wolf. It's a stones throw podcast that is fully comprised of religion and god related songs. There are some great ones. I'm looking for a track list right now.
Isn't Chevelle considered by many to be Christian rock, I know there's debate, some say yay some nay but I think those guys can rock pretty hard.
Jimmy Smith - The Sermon. Blue Note Jazz One of Jimmy Smith's best albums. Touches of R&B, Soul, Blues & Gospel The Nat Adderley Sextet - Soul Of The Bible Cannonball Adderley & David Axelrod w/ Rick Holmes religious narration. Funky Cannonball Adderley Quintet - Country Preacher "Essentially, this is the Cannonball Adderley Quintet as the house band for a Jesse Jackson revival meeting in Fall 1969. The Reverend Jesse begins the program exhorting the congregation to 'Walk Tall,' and the band launches into a set of its brand of soul-jazz dominated by Joe Zawinul's riffing on electric piano. Cannon does some preaching of his own now and then, and the audience shouts approval with every applause line and musical cue." C/- Amazon "Walk Tall" (feat: Reverend Jesse Jackson) was sampled by Tribe Called Quest - 'Footprints' "Country Preacher" was sampled by Pete Rock & CL Smooth - 'Return Of the Mecca' All great Jazz albums with religious themes and songs.
I would say that 40% of the Bad Religion catalog is related, but by NO MEANS does it suck. I would recommend God Song, American Jesus, and Sinister Rouge, if you wanted Christian "related" songs.
Where is that link someone posted here with that video for I Have A Friend Named (or was it In) Jesus? That was hilarious!
hah hah the Sonseed video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSJK-bLN4o8 talked to someone that's got their lp and they said that none of the other songs are half as amusing, unfortunately
Nirvana's "jesus don't want me for a sunbeam" Cash's "when the man comes around" gives me goosebumps and I'm not even religious. Does mansons "reflecting god" count?
