Jeff Buckley covering Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. Queen has a song called "Jesus" David Bowie - God knows I'm good. Nirvana covers The Vaselines with that sunbeam song.
+1...i've been listening to their whole catalog at work the past few weeks just in time for x-mas... i forgot how much i like the song serpents of the light
Seconding the Oblivians/Quintron record, that's probably my favorite record they ever did (and Soul Food is very hard to beat). If you dig that, try and find a copy of God's Got It by the Reverend Charlie Jackson. RIDICULOUS amounts of soul going on there, totally awesome record.
such a good song, and the album that is on is all around solid! you can also add a helluva alot of Johnny Cash. the term unblack metal always makes me chuckle. but yeah, there is a whole horde of unblack stuff out there. i actually listen to quite a bit of it: horde, crimson moonlight, kekal, (early) extol, and the dudes that pretty much started it all: mortification!
