LS, are you at liberty to say if you have any hand in the desgin of the sculpts and will have a colab ?
Really like the guy on the left. Cool mutated arm with beak, Pincer arm, Robot eyes + Guts. Would be good to see the flipsides.
Well who's that?!?! PM me people if the man doesn't want it being spread out publicly, I can keep my lips tight. I know who sculpted the dogs and that's IT. Now my curiosity GROOOWWWSS! I think Mori sculpted a few, Chaos for instance I'm pretty sure. This came up once before and it was mentioned, but never the "phantom sculptor/s" though.
Nope. With Gargamel as the exception, my understanding is that there are a handful of sculptors that help to realize our favorite creative artists' characters into beautiful hand-pulled Japanese vinyl. But first, it all has to start with a character idea and a drawing......
I think we know that most creations start with sketches and ideas. I would have thought that the sculpting process is critical as part of the creative process, call it as a major part of a development stage for the creator (more so than the sketch). I don't feel as hopeless now that I tried to sculpt from my own drawings and sometimes find it hard to translate it into 3D. I would like do it myself or else it's hard to call it one's own creation. Just like choosing colors and painting your own toys are 2 very individual steps yet inextricably linked creative processes that affect the outcome of the creation. I remember seeing a picture of Kozik's assistant painting his RxH releases. Then it got me to think that RxH, Gargamel, etc also do that. I know some small runs like the Camo Hedo they spray themselves. I keep reminding myself the real value of the toys so I don't over spend on it. Like HP Bemons and Anraku releases will always be the most respected toys when you look at it's true "value"... I remember KillerJ mentioned to me over the phone that he just made drawings and the SkullToys dude created the "smoking star" I would like to know if S7 does their own sculpting also. Regarding Gargamel, I think they mentioned before that they have their own sculptors as well. Or was it just Koji's own line?
I'm surprised you guys didn't read this before in all of the real head related threads on this board. In Carl's Japan visit thread, he specifically mentioned the sculptor for real head, and wasn't it also in that article translated in the kai zine? Many mentions of it on this board in many different threads. I'll let one of the S7 group answer the question about the sculpting of their toys. I know one or two sculptors for some of them, but it's best to get the specifics clearly from the best source.
BTW these little fellers are named Uchu Man and Mummy Glove. and yes Virginia we see full-sized versions one day.
I'm not feeling these at this point. The sculpts are too busy, and a bit too cartoonish from what I can tell. The minis to date have been pretty "clean", which I guess is more to my taste. A lot will depend on the colors but right now I'm not excited.
The mini versions of the fight figs we have now look pretty different from their 6" versions, so I wonder how these'll turn out. the mummy dude i don't like at all, but the other guy seems promising.
Going from the drawing, it looked promising but the final sculpts seem too cartoonish or busy to me. Maybe if it was more of a subtle sculpt. Or maybe its just the size and it would look better scaled up. I think its cool that he's trying new ideas, but the direction he's been going since say after the Organ Bat hasn't really interested me. Most of the sculpts seem to busy or crude. I'd rather see older sculpts done in clears and some sort of innards or separate armors or something. But I understand that you gotta move forward too.
I think a full size of the Uchu Man will be insane...excited to see what else is in store for this new group pf characters...
