^ With 39 songs posted since you last made a comment, whelp, your ears are in for it! Here's one more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMTBMCJgYxI "Disco From A Space Show sounds like an incidental adagio for a '70s sci-fi film hero trapped in a dystopia where women are forced to wear lots of eyeshadow."
^ Very nice! I ended up letting YouTube do its' thing, and an hour of Mr. Holmes later my house is cleaner, my outlook brighter and my step way peppier. In the player, presently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s31Hzsk7Bs8
Hey guys, thanks for turning me on to Mr. Holmes! Me likey! Not obscure, but a golden oldie nonetheless:
My New York days have been on my mind lately and I've found myself digging through my catalog of short-lived but unforgettable local bands I enjoyed during my time there and forevermore. Today's melody provided by JC & Anphibius.
New to me, thanks! Here's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvAmsWNVgZE Stick acrobatics from Rashied Ali with magic headsplits by lungmonster Frank Lowe. Thanks for triggering the memory of this one, MB! Edit: The 'Tube chose this for me next: Spoiler https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-Yb7NAEft8
Nice! I dig me some Rashied Ali! Had to drag over the first youtube comment from the William Onyeabor for perpetuity: "Excellent song to play while dancing naked like a mental patient and helicoptering your dick for your girlfriend".
Or, at the very least, your brain become an instant jukebox. The bulk of my music collection was stolen a few years ago - over 10,000 LPs; 1,000s of singles; too many irreplaceable cassettes to contemplate; and bog knows how many aluminum roundies - and, although it still stings, I'm finally able to hear a song I love without an accompanying fit of nausia and sadness. I think that my decision to use this thread to share whatever tune it is that managed to fight its way to the top of my milky brains on any given day has been the final kick to the ribs of my years-long pity party over the theft. Today's dose of happy medicine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U344liJLc_s First played for me in a cabin outside of Pittsburgh, snow and frozen ponds all around, by my cousin's friend Stevie, an actual survivor of a fall from the sky with a parachute that remained closed from plane to planet Earth. Pat Martino - Baiyina
I am loving that track D. Keep em coming. Going to really have to dig into Pat Martino's catalogue now. Something a little edgier from the 70's, but more folks need to get hep to Mahavishnu:
Back to the mild and anything but obscure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pj_KfJ5Li2o Herbie goddamn Mann. Fucking HOT band for "smooth" jazz: Sonny Sharock and Larry Coryell? Sweet Jebus. Can't mess with Roy Ayers on vibes, neither.
In case you're not familiar with Larry Coryell... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2Yc2mfRKTI ...here's a mighty fine jam of his. Seems to be about doin' it.
I feel really old! I remember when this LP came out in 1988- dropping acid and going for a long walk listening to this song over and over: Is it weird I still want that Ian Brown burnt money t-shirt he wears in the video still?
^ '89 . So... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQDvDJ_zqFo Did this do the trick for you back in '98, Chris? I'd guess that it was a happy collision of several of your worlds. I wish that I could buy you that shirt, by the way. My friend Bunny used to have one. EDIT: Ha! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stone-Roses-Bro ... B007X4CGU8
^^ You know you have to cut me some slack on dates. I'm old (47) I spent at least a good 17-20 years of my life indulging in just about any substance known to man so I get close to the right date. Can't remember everything lol. I do remember a single off that LP being out in 88, Elephant Stone maybe? I just remember it being a time when YOU had to seek good music and it was tough unless you were getting UK magazines (no internet) not like today where you're bombarded with crap posing as music. Wel I guess the kids have it rough because looking for good music today is like looking for the proverbial needle in the haystack. Anyhow yeah I do have that Primal Scream but after seeing them in 1992 on a US Scremadelica tour (Screamadelica is top 10 all time in my mind!) I kind of didn't like the follow up LP after the Dixie Narco EP. So I sort of forgot about them and immersed myself in the rave scene, I was only in 2000 when my boss at Breakbeat Science- DB handed me a promo copy of XTRMNTR (He chucked it at me and said this is your kind of stuff right?) that I heard that track with My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields. Definitely a great tune and I soon went online and bought the CD single you mention. I mean honestly is that cover not the best or what? http://www.discogs.com/Primal-Scream-If ... ster/28183 I've seen that t-shirt around online. Just weighing my options of which is the best. Someone needs to bring Madchester/ baggy back lol! Don't make me break out the oldskool pics from the 80's or 90's lol.
Oh yeah, you were lost without zines, NME, Melody Maker etc etc in those days. Everything was such a treasure hunt! Remember Goldmine? Something I didn't know about the PS/MBV track when I posted it yesterday: the ex-bass player from Stone Roses had just joined the band, ha! S'more rawk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_otNCZ5T2o Pairs nicely with the Coryell jammie from the other day. BUBBLE PUPPY - HOT SMOKE & SASAFRASS
Hopped in my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9lB6tPBbLQ From Gaye's Motown-rejected original mix of the album. I highly recommend tracking down a copy! EDIT: Holy crackers! Just learned that the Detroit mix was issued on vinyl a few years ago! Damn. Me wantie. Here's a nice little essay about anniversary set: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/156 ... y-edition/ What's Happening Brother (Detroit MIx) (What's Going On/Deluxe Edt. 2001)
What else ya got, Lixx? Maybe post some of that dancity music that you're always mentioning. I could use some schooling.
