Marusan Gojira first edition j-tail sold for 99k yen:

This one was a bit tricky as from the photographs it does not look like a J-tail due to the tail joint being damaged. It seems to be either ripped or cut on the top of the joint causing the tail to droop slightly. This causes it to look a bit more like the later L-tail versions, but I have no doubts based on the tail piece itself and other identifying features that the toy is one of these first edition versions. The additional child's hobby paints added to the spine and toenails are obviously not original, but if they are just acrylic paint it is possible they could easily removed if the buyer is daring enough to attempt it. A nice score even with the damaged tail.

This is interesting. I don't want to post live links but there are five auctions up right now of Bullmark figures from one of their old factories, all unbagged and sometimes unpainted:
    • 8 Redmans (or Godmans?), painted but no masks
    • 43 Mirrormans, painted but no masks
    • 22 Kingstrons, painted
    • 30 Sadolars, painted
    • 218 Noko-girins, unpainted
I asked Kaminaga-san about them, here is what he said:

"I asked Ishizuki-san about Sadora and other Bullmark’s auction items the factory sold. The factory produced those items was one of Bullmark’s subcontractors but not the main factory. When Bullmark went bankruptcy those molds were destroyed so these were produced before 1977. The factory produced these was closed long time ago. That’s I heard from Ishizuki-san."

Thanks for posting that @Roger . A few of us were talking about those auctions on the side. Super weird that these would just show up now after these factories have been closed for 40+ years.

In other news a super pricey Ultra Ace finger puppet from the other day. I was planning to try for this one, had no idea it would go this high.

Hey old timers. Long time no see. Came to post a story to remind everybody that wild finds can still happen.

Last year one of my employees texted me to ask if I knew anything about "Ultraman Toys". I told her that I did. She was in a small thrift shop in Kill Devil Hills NC and under a bunch of Minion toys in a basket, she found 2 vinyl toys. She said they were 25¢ a piece. She asked if she could show me what they were and if they were worth anything. She collects all sorts of things and just thought they looked cool but upon further inspection she thought they might be older than she thought. I saw them and told her to bring them in so I could take a better look at them.

I took one look in person and messaged a couple of friends (2 were skullbrain members) who I knew would want them. One of my friends pulled the trigger and I sold the Red King on eBay last year for her. She needed a new roof for her house and I told her these would help pay. Posting these photos of them as she brought them in. Good luck hunting out there.

I can’t imagine. Holy hell. Good thing she knew to ask and didn’t just leave them there.

She told me that the friends she was with were basically teasing her for taking home trash. I felt like I was on an episode of Sofubi Roadshow.

@bannedindc Amazing story. Thank you so much for posting it here. Of all the vintage Bullmark toys to find in a thrift store, these are about two of the best anybody could ever hope to find. They look to be in pretty nice condition as well. A lot of us are even more interested in how toys like this end up in thrift stores like this in the first place.

Since I am not interested in vintage figures and since I have no idea about costs to repair a roof, what are the usual prices for these figures?

If the MG is an original, $5,000-7,000 plus, these days I’d think.

Marusan Gojira sold for 1,889,888 yen. Possibly the highest known auction for a goji to date, and for one of the rarest variants on turquoise vinyl with dark green sprays, engraved on both feet, and damn near impossible to find in any condition. Chances like this auction are so very rare. I am not surprised to see so many strong bidders attempting to being this one home. Congrats to the winner:

I was amazed at the heights this figure reached but given condition i can see why all who bid pulled out all the stops.

having said that, i didnt notice until the auction was over what looks to be a pretty substantial crack at the base of the tail. I hope the buyer was aware of that going into it.

Good eye, Brian. There is also an indentation on the top of right leg that might also have a tiny crack or the start of one. With a toy this rare it does not seem to matter that much as there are no readily available options to obtain one of these in better condition. The paints are also in really excellent condition considering how fragile the dark green sprays are on these. It would ideal if the sellers would highlight any cracks and condition issues, but I have even seen shops like Toys King miss those at times.
