Got my patooti kicked on this auction. Had no idea this critter would have such an astronomical adoption fee. He is super cute, and that is what caught my eye. Can anyone shed some light on why he's so expensive?

It is a puppet finger sofubi, isn't it?
If so, the price is crazy!!

The description says it's 11.5 cm, so that's a big finger puppet. But what else could it be with the hole at the base? What justifies the expense? I know I must be missing something. Was hoping to add it in the buta shelves, but it wasn't meant to be :dam:

This is just a hunch, but the keyword here might be that it’s “unknown”, which carries value. There must be collectors out there who feel like they have seen everything there is to see, so perhaps when something appears that they haven’t seen before, they’re inclined to spend a little more to get it.

$1616 USD (yen converted to dollars) is a whopper! I know vintage sofubi has gone bonkers (same for buta), but since i'm just a mere mortal, I can't see spending that type of moolah for a finger puppet (to the crazy rich, it's probably just "bus fare"). Still, it's a very cute toy :)

I think the price is the obscurity and rarity of that finger puppet. Its pretty similar this other quite rare unknown pachi dino vinyl, I've never even heard of the finger puppet, amazing to discover something new (and add to the want list).

I thought of the same thing when I saw the little finger puppet.

There was a wide range of fireworks prices and solid deals in that auction. Never seen a Bullmark Hedorah sell for less than a Rodan. Hope some folks here got what they were after!

Yeah- a ton of real steals mixed with egregious prices. What a world- hoping this doesn’t negatively affect the vintage world even more

Mandarake would be jealous of these prices.

There was a 20% buyer's premium, too. So that $854 Hedorah actually cost $1,041. Plus about $55 for NJ sales tax.

The listed results include the buyer's premium already.

Some big results at the Mainichi NAG Auction (I forgot to take pics of the Mechagodzilla but it sold for around 1.5 million JPY including BP). I wasn't familiar with these MARUI walking hand toys but was hoping to nab them if they sold within estimate. Boy was I wrong.

It might be better that you didn’t since multiple toys are reportedly repainted and/or repaired (see Nag thread)

Haha if only. I won a few lots. I saw the posts from Kaleido and Kit_mama and spoke with someone else who was at the inspection and there were still lots of good pieces up for grabs. Even if some were repainted.

Have you considered that they might be haunted?

This one sorta hurt more than I expected it to. I'm not even really a dinosaur collector, but they really jumped out at me. I admittedly knew nothing whatsoever about them, and naively thought "eh they might be just some little cheap things I could get for 20-30 bucks."

But, HO-LEE HECK! They popped OFF!

Look at these final prices!!! Someone had quite the find on their hands.

The star of the show was the mammoth. I'm still trying to get my popped out eyeballs back into my skull at that price.
Not totally surprising it was the fav though, but I was most interested in the bronto and stego. Surprised the Bronto was the lowest.

Vintage is just madness these days.

    Miura toy inflation continues
Gokudosaurus sale for $680 or so.

Also, very late reply for @Mr. Humphreys, but the finger puppet world seems particularly vicious--I just saw an Osato Toys Baltan go for $220, and all the well-known ultra kaiju seem to be over $100 in whatever condition now. I guess people love their minis!

I've seen a few vintage "Cosmos Alien" CraterMan (Ooze-it Bootlegs) sell before. But, this is the first time I've personally seen a vintage "Cosmos Alien" Fish-man version sell.

    $1,276.17 ???!!! Be for real. :|
