Finished it today, and told my wife I will happily rewatch it with her if she's gonna give it a go. It totally won me over by the end. I think a part of it is that the story is something I would have dreamed up back in 1983. I mean, it wouldn't have had all the grown-up stuff in it, but my world pretty much revolved around King and all the movies riffed on here. And a big thumbs up to the scene with the science teacher and his lady watching The Thing!

When the kids are playing the roleplay game at the start there is a thing poster on the wall behind them!

Yeah, that poster, Evil Dead, and Jaws can be seen throughout.

Thoughts on another season? Definitely feels like it. Either way I was more than entertained, and felt like they really nailed it all the way around.

No way should they add a second season. It ended just fine. I'll never look at waffles the same way again.

I'm assuming that if there is another season it's going to feature a whole new cast/story so no need to worry about how this season ended.. seems like it will be more of an anthology series right?

I mean I guess I can totally see that working. The "upside down", I would assume, would encompass the entire globe.

I'm expecting them to not even mention the upside-down.. Might even be a sci-fi story next time, maybe a haunted house or something. Seems like they are big "Amazing Stories" fans. If anybody wants more of this kind of stuff to watch after finishing the 8 episode run I suggest tracking down the Amazing Stories seasons for sure!

Loved the hell out of this show, watched it all last weekend. The brothers that created the story stated in interviews that they would continue with the same characters and go a bit further to explain/explore the upside down.
Especially since the main character ends up with a connection to it.

Just found this interview with Dixon and Stein, the guys doing the music. Minor clarification: The band S U R V I V E (whatevs, that's how they write it) is actually a four man outfit, but only Dixon/Stein are working on Stranger Things (not sure how the other two dudes got stiffed). You guys mentioning The Guest's soundtrack are spot on, Survive had a couple songs on there. In fact, that's where the Stranger Things guys heard them.

I really enjoyed this series, it felt like one long movie and not television. Production value was super on point and while it was clearly paying homage to a lot, it definitely carved its own lane in my opinion. It never felt like they were cashing in on the nostalgia.

I already cant wait for the second season, anthology or not, I'm sure its going to be killer!

Yes and the second season may or may not have anything to do with the first season. The brothers haven't really decided yet and said that it could go either way but they seemed to be leaning towards something different.

Really enjoyed this show. Not sure how I feel about a 2nd season, but I'll happily give it a go.
Anyone watched that other show they did?

40 minutes left until I've finished up this season - while I'm thinking of it, I just wanted to say that it's really nice to be watching a NF original and want more of it, rather than the usual feeling that if it had been 5 hours shorter it might actually have been good.

I finally got around to ep 2 and I think I'm going to stick it out. It's gaining a little momentum. Plus that brief bit where the girl flips over the game board and puts the wizard miniature down while that synth stuff was pulsing was king of a clincher.

It'll be interesting to see what they do. I hope they keep w/ the 80's theme. some early 90's would be cool too.

That's good news. I haven't actually watched any of these "anthology" series (I do want to get around to Fargo, though), but it just seems like you can do more with a the same story being told over multiple seasons. i am curios to see how Fargo is handled, though.

Read the reviews, avoided the spoilers, put up with my boy raving about it and finally binged on it over the last couple of days.

Told him to check out X-Files series1-3 . . . before it tied itself in knots.

    SSDD!

Just finished it last night. It was a very good watch, my wife enjoyed it too and this normally isn't her deal. The season could definitely stand alone, I liked the way it ended. I'm cautiously optimistic about them continuing with Will and his aftermath and exploring the upside down more. I hope they don't do too much explaining of it though, that starts to ruin the vibe for me. Also wasn't too impressed with the demogorgon design. Kinda generic for my tastes, but they handled it's scenes well. Also give poor Winona a break! She was worried about her son!

I'm sure you guys have discussed the comeback season. Rather than bump that convo, I'll just say here that I thought (as did everyone else) that it wasn't that hot, but I thought it was absolutely worth it to get Mulder and Scully Meet the Were-Monster, a top-notch ep that was very funny and had some meaningful subtext going on, too. Brilliant.

Plus, it was just kinda cool to be watching the X-Files in 2016.
