So far not liking the previews. Found Painted Skin 2 to be horribly boring. Looking forward to Vulgaria(HK), Thermae Romae (Japan), Young Gun In The Time(Korea), and maybe The Grandmasters (HK) but need better teasers on that one.

Bullet Vanishes seems like a fun take on the Sherlock Holmes series. Did you see painted skin in 3D? It was a huge hit in China, but I think people like the art direction more than the plot.

I dont like 3d very much so no. It was so convoluted it could have been a Tsui Hark film except it lacked his ability to connect the audience with the hero. Fighting wasnt to good. Art direction seemed a bit out of date even with all the cgi. First was far superior. But I am a Donnie Yen fan.

They previewed Starry Starry Night at the cinema which I have seen and think is wonderful.

Still, really glad AMC is bringing these even if I do have to drive a bit.

Here's hoping this makes a pass through Detroit - seems like the kind of picture that will play best on the big screen.

I watched it at the media advance screening. The production quality is great. Excellent acting, excellent plot, excellent action.
I found a movie review here. It's really good.

    -- a surprising, well-crafted mystery set in 1930s China
-- Strong acting and special effects make this the equal of many Hollywood offerings, but the film's tricky plotting and assured direction set it above most genre exercises
-- Part of the fun of the film is how primitive police methods appear to us today
-- the dialogue is delivered so quickly that it can be hard to keep up with subtitles
-- Hong Kong star Lau Ching-wang is excellent
-- Nicholas Tse seems more engaged than in some of his recent films
-- a few of the scenes feel overwrought. But, on the whole, this is an intelligent, well-made mystery that will satisfy fans of the genre

Might try then. I think what bothered me most from the previews is the bad gangster making the "I'm so crazy" evil face. Sometimes the overacting in HK films kills it for me as in Johnny To's Mad Detective and Throwdown.

In other news Flying Swords of Dragon Gate plays for a week starting today across the states.

I watched "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate." It's very well done. But if you dislike "Painted Skin 2" that much, you may think the plot in this film is not strong either. Very good visual effect. You can tell it's shoot for 3D.

I've seen it already and will again for the big screen. I am a Tsui Hark fan though I dont care much for Jet. Far better then Painted skin 2. Convoluted but not boring.

Saw Bullet Vanishes last night at the AMC ATS. Was fun and the action scenes were impressive. High end production and special effects, engaging detective story with lots of twists and turns. I would like to see the sequal.

Amazed how many good asian films have been coming our way.

SOS - Do you speak mandarin, or have to read the subtitles like I do?
