Whenever I'm in front of someone shooting, I always have one hand over my crotch. So far I've been lucky enough to not get hit there.

...and here's a clip of Bryzgalov wackiness (1:06min is pretty awesome...Bears...hahahaha!)

and so ends the All Star Game. That has to be one of the better All Star Games I've watched. Regardless of what people think of Scott, the fact that former teammates pick him up and put him on their shoulders says a lot about his character. It made Bettman, Milbury, and a bunch of other people look like the idiots that they are. There's actually a petition going around to get Milbury off the air. This is a guy that said enforcers have no place in the All Star Games, the same guy that put Chris Nilan on his 91 All Star roster. Eat a bag of dicks, Milbury.

WTF are the Habs doing? Lost to the Blue Jackets in back to back games and next thing you know, they'll lose to the Leafs, the Sabres, and the Oilers as well. I'd really love to see the Oilers get back into the play-offs. They are already looking better than the past few seasons.

Thread resurrection. So let me ask is it better for a team to lose their star goalie and completely collapse and be long out of contention/eliminated awhile ago OR have a team that defies expectations, goes hot and cold all season- only to collapse in the last month after finally getting to first place in their division (oh and this is the same team that collapsed at the very same time last season and missed the playoffs)

If I was a Canadians fan I'd be eerily calm knowing there is next season- Price will be back, make the proper tweeks in the offseason, and hell we've been out of it for awhile.

As a Bruins fan I am utterly ashamed of a team that constantly makes their fanbase believe in them only to shit the bed at the absolute worst time - 2 years in a row. I had to laugh at the Redwings/Flyers last night. I KNEW the Wings would win just like they probably will tonight against the B's. They know how to pull it together when they need to. Man I miss the 2010-2014 Bruins! Can we please have that team back?

At least I can concentrate on doing the 3 papers (2 research 1 normal) I need to complete that are due in 3 weeks that I haven't started

I don't know if either is worse, necessarily. In any case it is tough to be a fan. It doesn't help when the changes the league is constantly adding seem to run the sport into the ground. Yeah, it was a tough year being a Canadiens fan, especially with the start we had, and there are definitely seasons I would like to have back/channel. All's I can really hope for - and it seems like it is the same thing I am always asking for from the team (nevermind that it never happens) - is that they actually sit down in the off season and make some serious changes with their team structure, coaching, play style, etc. I am not saying they need a complete rebuild, far from it, but come on, this is an 'experiment' that has been playing out for the better part of a decade or so, and has not gotten them any closer, relatively, to the cup. I would really like to see some major changes for once, and focus on the on-ice product, rather than whatever it is the drives the team management into sticking with the status quo. While I will stay a fan, there is no way that this same system is realistically going to end in a long winning streak to the final. You need to build with that in mind, not be satisfied with mediocrity anymore. But that is me; I would rather take risks to have a chance. AT the end of the day there is only one team that hoists the Cup, and a whole lot of others who are not champions.

All this just to say, yeah, I feel ya Lixx. A team collapsing is rough, especially when they have the potential. Here is to a better season to come, and I guess it frees me up to work on other stuff and not face all the stress and disappointment of the playoffs.

Also, one last point, and I know I said this before but, a performance -based salary, especially in this age of ridiculously huge bank for 'average' players, is really what I would like to see.

I feel ya on all your points. I think there is a big gap between many teams ownership and management as to what warrants changing. If they fill the seats regardless what's the incentive from ownership to pay players to try to improve? I'm by no means a Buffalo Sabres fan but living here I've seen this first hand. The previous owner knew people of Buffalo will sell the arena out night after night and for years put forth an inferior product. Then you get this new owner in and he overhauls the team and overspends on average players and still has crappy teams- leading to a complete rebuild. It's hard to balance the two and finding the winning combo is really hard in this day an age.

I personally loathe the salary cap. It's such fucking BS but the league has the parity it desperately wanted. I'm sorry I think certain markets should just suck. Not every city is going to 'love' hockey! So dilute strong markets like Boston, Montreal etc so sell the product everywhere? Pftttttt. Florida is having a ridiculous season but whenever I see a game there (well when the B's play them) more than 60% empty seats? Now they are expanding which is going to suck more. We need less teams not more.

One last point do you think players intentionally play harder during contract ending seasons? I do. For example Marchand and Eriksson are great players and very skilled but really is it any coincidence that their contracts end this season? EDIT: wait Marchand is next season but I still think it factors given the winds of change. I mean doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Where was this effort last year? I really think most players are overpaid. Seriously if you sniff anywhere near 6-7 million a season as a forward you should easily be banking 35-40 goals a season at least. Big goalies or no big goalies. If you're a defenceman you should be preventing a whole lot more.

You are so right. That is part of the problem with Montreal as well. The team has history sure, but they are just as much manipulating the fact that people want to see games - are fighting to get tickets - that they KNOW full well they can (and will) do whatever the hell they want because at the end of the day, the Bell Centre will be sold out. It is a large venue, but considering the on-ice product, and that nearly every single game...every one...for years and years, has been completely booked, well hell, what do they care how the team actually performs. I mean, verbally, they will openly lodge complaints, say they are changing this or that, fire coaches, management, whatever, but really, all they care about is the bottom dollar, and nothing has changed for the team in decades in terms of fan attendance. In fact, they are only increasing revenue each year, and purposefully (don't kid yourselves, you know they know exactly what they are doing) manipulating tickets sales and prices to gouge consumers and make going to a game in person seem like an elite event.

As for performing base on contract renewals; you can bet your ass they do. Likewise for when a player gets a trade turned down or loses a negotiation - you can be sure that you will see the result in what they give you in their play. I am not saying this is a hard and fast rule that applies to everybody, and would go so far as to say that is the same type of player who will do this, but you are damn right that some players [especially ones you see named so often in media] will only give what they want to the game, not what they have in them, despite their massive salaries. Look, I get that they are human, and just dudes like the rest of us; everyone goes through ups and downs and isn't always their best, but as anyone who follows the game, you KNOW that certain players will perform hard when they want to, or play soft or even disappear completely when they feel like it. And it sucks for us to have to watch that because you either (a) know that a person can give much more and is just barely contributing when you want your team to win or (b) see someone pull it all together and give an amazing run, and have to wonder where the hell they were for the rest of the season/other years when the team needed them. This is also part of why I think a base salary + performance bonus is the right way to go. Pay them for what they are worth, not how good their agents are. The NHL and PA have completely screwed the way the system is set up now, with all the huge salaries and long contracts, and I honestly don't see how it can ever go back to a 'normal' state. Unless the whole experiment busts.

Definitely pretty surprising. I have never been a Blues fan (I t̶h̶i̶n̶k̶ know my strong dislike has a very prominent association to Brett Hull), but nice to see some other teams have success for once.

After 25 years of cheering for this team and watching their ups and torturous downs, I am so happy for the San Jose Sharks! Looking forward to the finals, and beyond proud of this group of players and coaches!

Now the question is, can the Sharks beat the Lightning/Pens. I'd be fine if the Lightning wins the Cup but happier if the Sharks do...as long as it isn't the Pens.

It's looking like Penguins right now but, I'll go ahead and say:

Sharks in 5 if it's TB
Sharks in 6 if it's Pitt

Ughhh Pittsburgh and San Jose? Well it should be a good final even if I dislike both teams. Not having a team in it makes it more enjoyable to watch. At least the Pens reverted back to their old unis for home. They should switch back to those for home and away next year.

Yeah, you are right, it should make for a good final. I think the Sharks might have a little edge on scoring and size to the Pens' speed, but we will see. As with any playoff pairing, a lot will come down to goaltending. Fleury has been really hit-and-miss throughout his career, so that could really be a weakness on the back end. I don't have a preference for either team either, but I do find that when you can pick, it makes a final more enjoyable to watch when you support one side (in any sport) so that you can get behind one team during the play.

I almost feel like punching myself and eating my own words for saying this but even though I hate both teams I would like to see San Jose lose and the Pens win. I just don't like the hipster civil war beards (Burns is fucking disgusting), I can't stand lots of the players on the team like Couture (I think Lucic should have beat him into oblivion earlier in the season), Burns, Wingels, Hertl, and Dillion. I hate their coach. They beat the team I wanted to win (St. Louis). As much as I can't stand Crosby, Malkin, Letang, and the Pittsburgh Penguin fanbase (and Lemiuex)- Penguins supporting cast I like more. Kessel's a good guy and an ex Bruin, Hagelin labored for years with the crap Rangers, and it's hard not to like guys Rust. Yeah yeah Jumbo joe is a great guy, and an ex Bruin but get out of SJ Joe....Bourque had to do it to win the cup.

Now I'll go wash my hands off an pound my head in the wall for even typing/thinking this.

Being born and raised in San Jose and playing/watching hockey most of my life I definitely have a biased opinion on the team ive been supporting since day one. That being said, Im going to support the team to fullest no matter what. I do have to agree with you on couture, never has been a favorite of mine but he's on the team and I'd have to say he does contribute to the team. I have some super douche bag stories of him that female friends of mine have shared, but ill have to leave those stories for another convo. Besides couture i have no problem with the rest of the guys. I think Marleau has been on the team way too long but it is what it is. Nothing but love for Jumbo and Burns has done so much on and off the ice since he has gotten to san jose the community loves him. Although id have to say he definitely has some screws loose! The supporting cast in Sj can use some touching up but especially our 2nd and 3rd defensive pairings, id like to see the team address that in the offseason hopfeully. And I loved the move to get martin jones between the pipes. As for the Penguins, being from the westcoast i cant say I can share that hate towards the pens as you do (maybe after this series my opinion will change), i have to agree their bot6 has been solid and really creating problems for the sharks, honestly the entire pens team has been solid. I seriously thought the sharks would be able to adjust to the speed in game two but the pens have been truly dominating the sharks. Im hope the return home and taking the pens out of the eastcoast will throw them off and the sharks can implement their play and have more time in their ozone.

Well, congrats to the Pens and their fans. Pretty evenly matched teams, and San Jose deserves equal praise for their season.

I am just really looking forward to a whole new season right now, hopefully with some welcome changes team-wise (and I certainly wouldn't object to NHL management shifting either, but we know that will never happen).

I didn't think the Sharks could pull it off (I was hoping they would) but a pretty interesting season seeing the changes they had made. Now is the time when my TV is barely on...cept maybe for the occasional viewing of Mecum Auctions, cheesey SciFi movies, or cartoons. Summer Olympics are coming so maybe I'll get to catch some wrestling, instead of all the running, jumping, and tumbling they usually focus on.

I can't believe they gave Crosby the Conn Smythe?! He was ok, made some nifty passes but come the fuck on...Kessel, Murray, or even San Jose's goaltender Martin Jones should have gotten the trophy! Bettman personally gave him that trophy you know it! Why? Because they groom Crosby. I'm not saying he's not good but he's definitely over rated. Here you go man... a trophy you don't have. Absolutely robbed the guys that deserve it. Crosby even knew it, he didn't look thrilled to be getting it.

I love how Bettman is constantly booed no matter what year, wherever he goes. Everyone hates that guy so much (deservedly so). Makes me chuckle!

I don't know if I can stomach another off season of Bruins bad moves.

Yes...Conn Smythe should have been given to one of the goalies.

Off season is actually pretty exciting to see which players are picked up by what team.

So it looks like the report is out, with a 'YES' for Vegas and 'NO' for Quebec City. Two decisions which I think are both stupid and unsurprising. No word on where the expansion application money went to, but I am sure we can all figure that one out. Hooray for more desert hockey.

Also, I can't believe Vegas is getting is getting its first pro franchise, and it is going to be for hockey. I think that tells you a lot about where this is headed. But ya gotta chase them greenbacks.
