I can recall that it was something that was purchased to paint over. Only the guys who bought them can attest to this though. I also remember hearing that there were quite a few of these out there, yet I rarely see them in people's collections and as I mentioned, it took me a year to find one. I saw one of those Toxic Avenger chaos on two separate trips to NYC, about 3 months apart, just sitting there as well. I don't like the paint scheme on that one, but I still found it strange that it was there both times.
You are an honest man. I'm very grateful to the board member who sold me one. I think he thought I paid too much at the time ("offer" sales were still allowed at the time) but it'd probably sell for more, now. Yeah that Toxic Avenger dude is "beautiful because ugly" LOL. The pink eye really redeems it. Pardon the thread drift...
The delayed appreciation is something that is sort of unique to RxH at this point, I think. I remember that when I first started collecting, the WF Chaosman, Astro Zombies Chaos, Armored Chaosman and Ramune set sat around on webstores forever and ever. Now that RxH fever has really set in, it seems like everyone is hankering for these. Whereas you could once pick these up easily for retail, now it seems like you'd be lucky to get them for $100 a piece. Sorry, kind of a tangent, but I thought it was relevant to the discussion of perceived rarity.
Honestly I didn't plan on it. I learned a lesson from it to be honest. Now that there are tons of flesh figs out there I haven't touched a painted figure in a bit. I don't even remember the last time I had to acetone a figure. Live and learn.
You got me. When I'm not running my Knunt webstore and when I'm not doing auctions on eBay as DavidBorn, I'm down in my tricked out basement studio breathing in v-color as I lay down the spray and show the Japanese how it should be done...
people post their customs because they're proud of what they made... so by all means, post it (please). most people don't want to hear it if you think it sucks ass (with the exception of me. so i can tell you to go fuck yourself) not sure who someone can "look down" on you bert for using a paintbrush. some of the most mindblowing techniques can be achieved w/o airbrush
Honestly though.... When I paint, I'm not trying to "show the Japanese how it should be done" I do it because I really just like to paint them. And what you think of as "ruining figures" has not only made me good friends, it has also helped me get into contact with said companies. RxH has one of my customs at the shop, and now I'm doing a run for pop soda etc. You may think its bad but obvious the Japanese don't feel that way. Paul Kaiju, look at him. Exohead, Anraku etc... ! Bwana, Martin .... Gargamel ! toybot ... pop soda Just because we are Americans and didn't create it shouldn't mean we are shunned. Painting has, and is bridging the gap. I see only good things. If you feel they are stupid or wrong that is cool. But I ask that you dont force people to think of you opinion as fact and the new rule.
and that is your right, to tell me to go fuck myself. and it's my right to tell you your artwork or custom is crap. i wish people here did more of both more often.
Good defense LASH. For my part, preferring the original Japanese issues isn't intended as negative judgment of customizers, it's just a preference. Having said that, I love the customs that I have, either because I think of the people who did them as kaiju buddies or because they're just so dang well done. It doesn't have to be either/or.
I just can't wait for the replacement fan to come so I can start painting. I think I like to get high off paint fumes. Screw the fan.
Well...this thread has gone to the toilet with posts like that. I thought this was going to be a good discussion but the kids think otherwise.
