Everyone on either side of this discussion has agreed that Ecko didn't mean anything malicious when he used the word in his post. That's all and good, but the fact of the matter is that it is a derogatory term plain and simple. It may not have been used pointedly but it was used flippantly and posted without any sensitivity to those who may be offended. That's not a big deal because he probably didn't realize it when he posted it. But the problem at hand is that when pointed out, Ecko has refused to accept that he may have been insensitive, even inadvertently, and what proves that point is that the word has not even been edited out from the original post. I don't think he needs to apologize for being offensive because I for one knows he didn't mean it that way....but he should at least acknowledge his mistaken use of the word and make the necessary changes ASAP.

Dude, if you can't figure out the difference between how you used it and how Loco used it, you really are a douche  .

    fixed jordan ;)

and the comment above is highly funny...

i used it to describe a colorway of a piece of plastic... he used it trying to tell me why it is in fact derogatory... point and case was according to him it's not to be typed at all... that being said... it should not be typed at all... simple as that. he could of explained why you should not use the said word without in fact saying that word... he chose to write the word out, not once, or even twice, but four times... that does not give him any right to type it out. it seems as though it's picka nd choose what to respond to and what not to... noones going nuts over the other derogatory word used.

Thanks...that was step 1 in what is turning out to be a 12 step program :)

Let me see if I can put it this way...if you're walking along and accidentally bump into someone....do you say sorry or say nothing at all because you didn't mean to do it? Now if you didn't say sorry or even acknowledge it, do you agree it would be awkward? I don't think Loco was asking for you to admit you're a racist (which you're not obviously) but it would be proper to at least acknowledge the "bump"....which could be as simple as "Oops, my bad. Didn't mean it that way."

I believe there are 3 basic ways a derogatory word gets used:
    1. On purpose, with obvious malice
    2. On purpose, in a discussion of the word itself
    3. On accident, with no malice but still offensive because it wasn't used in a discussion of the word itself

Loco did #2 (no pun intended) and Ecko did #3. There is a difference.

I wish Usugrow would come with a GID with black Rebel Ink so we could nix this BS.
Damage is done. Let's not drag it out.

i agree a gid version would be intense... not to sure on a full gid though... what would be a good color to compliment the gid? just black? possibly purple?

    Hey, here's the bottom line:

The word used is offensive (on this board and else where) - seems no one is accusing you (Ecko) of being racist, so its a simple matter of apologizing for your mistake, learning from it - then we can all move on and get back to the toy thread.

muton, can we get this locked? I keep hoping there is a new colorway of the RI that has surfaced only to see my fellow SB'ers talking to someone who keeps digging a deeper grave for him/her-self

Yes - it is a complete waste of time if you actually want some SB info - so locked it will be.
