you just need to be careful and not get carried away! I got a signed jar of pus for like 140 bucks so even with fees 140 was cheap as that shit never comes up on the bay! but yeah celga means the end of your natural life as you know it
Rhino nah, it was the signed superfestival 20 from 2001 it is sweet although a did get a red Jar last month from a board member at a killer rfso price, that is the one that comes in the wooden box and red velvet bag !!!! i am just waiting for my blood pirate and will then post some pics.
I thought I would revive this post for some SB noobs (like myself). Seems a lot of members have come by nice vinyls on YJA, and its a great way to scoop that elusive figure if you have the cash to spend. I've read what has been said about third-party intermediaries, but was just wondering how it stands now; been any improvements or worsenings lately? I've dealt with the auction site once directly (though it wasn't easy of course, with the language conversions, searching, etc) and it basically cost be 200$ for not a single thing in return. Since this schooling I have tended to stay away, but I feel like I am missing out on a huge market. So, any additional YJA tips out there?
I was wondering if anyone who is/has bid on YJA directly, i.e. not through a proxy service, how you have elevated your status to the 'premium' membership. The bidding limits otherwise are maxed out at 5000 Yen, but even if I chose to pay the monthly fee to use the service, I cannot seem to pay with the bank account I have (it only accepts certain types) nor is my credit card being accepted. Has anyone else had this problem? I love this hobby, but sadly 5000 Yen doesn't buy you all that much these days.
I depends on what you want to get. I collect vintage Microman stuff and there’s stuff I scored from Yahoo! Japan Auctions I simply would have never been able to get in the U.S. Even with fees and the wretched exchange rate, it still comes out to about the same if/when similar items come up for sale in the U.S. But the main way you can get Yahoo! Japan stuff to work for you is if you can sell on eBay or elsewhere. I like to bid on auctions where the thing I want might just be a part of a lot of various other parts. Lots of collectors I know do this. I did this a lot more when the dollar was stronger against the Yen and it works out great for all: Collectors in the U.S. who can’t front the $$$ end up buying rare stuff from me via eBay or directly and I get the piece I want. Win-win for all! If you want to purchase a single item, that is going to be nosebleed territory. Especially nowadays. The fees are nowhere as bad as the Yen is. I mean, 2 years ago it was about 115 Yen to the dollar. This last auction I scored was at the rate of 72 Yen to the dollar. Painful, but if you want something you want something.
save yourself the money. yes, there is good stuff to be found on YJA. But after the exchange rate, shipping and Celga fees, it's not worth it anymore. like I said before, a 5,000 yen win seems like a decent deal at the time, but it turns into $160 real fast. All of a sudden eBay looks a lot better.
115Y to $1USD... How I miss that. GLORIOUS boxes in the mail! Anyway, I think Steve is looking for advice on how to use Y!J directly while he's living in Japan, rather than counsel on the best way to make it work as a US buyer. He's in the perfect situation right now to avoid brokers and international shipping fees, what with living in Kobe, but is hitting roadblocks when it comes to banks and web site policy.
If only eBay offered the selection yja has! I actually find yja sellers cheaper after fees than eBay sellers usually. Sellers on eBay really take the piss with pricing. Kirk not sure what middleman you're using but a 5000 yen item usually ends up around 90 after fees and shipping within japan. Maybe 110 total after shipping ems to the states. Ultra don't yja sellers usually offer COD?
I went through this a few months ago. I use a middle man but have my own account to do my bidding. They had to make a whole new account for me. I was told "YJA has changed its system and now is requiring different information for premium (over 5,000 yen) accounts including such things as a unique cellphone email, etc." I think they also require a bank account be linked to your bidding account. I guess it really depends on what you collect if YJ is worth it or not. For vintage stuff there's really no other way. If you are patient there are still deals to be had even with the exchange rate being what it is. Its really tough to build a focused collection of anything relying only on ebay, especially with the obscure shit I buy.
Resurrecting this thread with a bit of a question. I just had an auction end wherein there was some last minute bidding (I know, this is all the norm these days). But the thing is, this is the first time I have encountered the situation where the auto-extend 10 minute rule was not applied. Normally this essentially renders the whole snipe bid thing useless, another reason I prefer YJA. However, this didn't happen, and a bid in the last minute was effected and did not change the end time. So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. In this case I was watching it live, otherwise I would never have noticed it occurring. It kinda throws a damper in bidding plans if they can remove that feature with making it explicit.
I can't remember which field it is that determines if an auction has the ten-minute extension thing but I think it's 自動延長 Not a Japanese speaker and can't be sure without seeing your auction but I think that's the one.
Ultra did you win this?: http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k148938402 Very cheap, since the removable mask guys usually end up more.
Dammit! Wish I could say that I had in fact. That was a bargain, but I had all my funds tied up in the other auction, and was expecting this to end so cheap. Someone got a hell of deal, small damage aside.
Does anyone have any experience with the website jauce.com? It looks like they provide bidding services for Yahoo JP, but I don't know how their pricing stands compared to other services.
Just curious what most people are using to bid aside from their buddy in Japan? Any recommendations of what to use/avoid?
