The Chicago Cubs, 2008 National League Central Division Champions. 2 years in a row. First time since 1908 they have won Division titles 2 years in a row. I'm stoked. Can't wait for the playoffs. Go Cubbies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well they haven't won the World Series They can get as close as they want, but "Goat" dictates they can't WIN.
Really wish there were more Cub fans here. I know we have several Chicagoan's, but I don't think most of them care much about the Cubs. My first & only trip to Rotofugi this May I was decked out in full Cub gear & the guy at the counter was looking at me like who the hell is this guy. Then I started talking to him about Secret Base & Gargamel & he quickly changed his tune.
I am not feeling optimistic about the red sox...and the cubs are my national league team. grew up watching them on wgn!
Some lyrics to a sarcastic love song by my favorite band (The Mountain Goats) that seem appropriate for this thread: Cubs in Five they're gonna find intelligent life up there on the moon and the Canterbury tales will shoot up to the top of the best seller list and stay there for 27 weeks and the Chicago cubs will beat every team in the league and the Tampa Bay Bucs will make it the way to January and i will love you again i will love you, like i used to i will love you again i will love you, like i used to the stars are gonna spell out the answers to tommorow's crosswords and the Phillips corporation will admit that they've made an awful mistake and bill gates will single handedly spearhead the heaven seventeen revival and the Chicago cubs will beat every team in the league and the Tampa Bay bucs will take it all the way to the top and i will love you again i will love you, like i used to and i will love you again i will love you, like i used to
Huge Cubs fan and this year alone has been amazing whether they made it or not. Got some tickets from a friends dad a week or two ago 5 seats from the on-deck circle, amazing seeing homers up close. Im happy as can be at this point alone, world series would be a huge bonus.
what's not to feel optimistic about?? the sox will be the only ones left standing when its over. the angels will choke. the rays will realize they are messing with the big boys and wet their pants. and who's left? the white sox? please...
im from from boston but i dont think they have it this year seems like to much presue for us Tb vs angels is what i think it will come down to wich im not sure on this one yet its football season now im more concerned about the PATS than anything
I'm from Chicago, Northside, no suburb crap, I HATE THE CUBS. I guess it's not the Cubs I hate, I hate the gajillions of "fans" who head down to Wrigley every game from Skokie or Evanston or Niles or wherever and get drunk and yell "wooo" and than not actually KNOW a baseball game is happening. That's what I hate. Not a lot of appreciation for the game, just a lot of annoying drunks. And not even the cool angry type of drunk, but the annoying "Girls Gone Wild" type. The Frat mentality, I hate that.
i don't know - the angels still worry me and paps can't seem to throw anything but fastballs anymore! i guess it's the old sox fan in me always waiting for the worst i became a fan when i was 9 watching the '86 world series my first real exposure to baseball was that world series (we didn't have cable yet that had TBS and WGN for braves and cubs games) maybe that one just conditioned me from the get go
I hate that area, yuppies and drunks and fake mall punks swarming everywhere. There's some good eating for sure, but just what it's become depresses me. It used to actually be a TERRIBLE area when I was real young in the early 80's I guess (I've been told, why would I remember?) Sadly it's now like a lot of Chicago, yuppies swarming in from the burbs and destroying everything with Starbucks and cell phone stores and ugly condos. It really depresses me, the city I grew up in and loved was actually erased and replaced with a wasteland of sterile crap. Much of the older architecture torn down and replaced with cinder blocks and faceless steel. Sorry, off topic a bit, I can go on about how my home was erased, I have in the past, but I used to love where I was from until where I was from didn't exist. Kind of surreal.
As of today 5 is the magic number for the Dodgers!!! Not saying they can win it all, but I'll be stoked regardless. Manny is amazing... 2 homeruns last night in an ugly win, batting .400+ with 15 homers and around 50 RBI's in less than 2 months. Besides the numbers, Manny has been great for overall team chemistry (or, maybe everyone is just happier since Jeff Kent hasn't been around).
