Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) so...would anyone care to comment on the dvd edition? is it worth it?
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) It's inexpensive if you buy it directly from Criterion. Currently approx $32 for the Blu-Ray or $24 for the 2-disc DVD set. We pay many times that for toys of The King. This is a must-have. The much-respected DVD Beaver site calls it the definitive release of the film. EDIT: I just saw that it's even less expensive at Amazon.
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) Just buy it, you won't be diaaspointed. Criterion blu-ray collection Very addicting
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) Got my BluRay in the mail yesterday. I'm sure to have a viewing sometime this weekend.
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) If you have an extra Third Man Blu-ray let me know the Studio Canal release i have sucks
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) That is impressive...I used to have ALLOT...now I just use Hulu
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) Valentine's Day sale for 24 hours. Now is your chance to pick up Gojia in beautifully restored high def if you haven't already, and have some spare cash around.
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) 50% off ... use promo code "SWAK" until noon PST 2/15 @ http://www.criterion.com/ Loved the CC Goji release. The extras are exceptional and offered a lot of insight into the film. One tidbit: The technical reason for Godzilla's slow movements had to do with costume restrictions but this had a powerful psychological effect in Japan because his waddle resembled that of a Sumo wrestler. Slow monsters are more sympathetic than fast monsters. We empathize with Goji despite his destructiveness. It's not his fault that he was awakened. Every time I see the film its pervasive seriousness strikes me. I don't believe any of the sequels have that quality although "Hedorah" at least tried to convey a serious eco-message amid the wild battles and psychedelic go-go girls. Haven't checked out the American version yet...
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) thanks for the headsup guys. I almost bought it full price last night at the book store. Just got the dvd version from the criterion site for $20 shipped!!
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) I'm so bummed the BR version is out of stock, it wont let you apply the code to back orders.
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) I had the same problem, because I was having a problem filling my order. I requested a post-adjustment for the out of stock BD, seeing as how the website was having issues, so hopefully they can honour that. EDIT: great news everyone. I don't know how many others are curmudgeons like me who still write complaint letters, but anyways, Criterion is honouring the promotion on Out of Stock items continuing until tomorrow 1700 EST. Promo code is 'redo'
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) Picked up 3 blu rays for under $50! They do this 3-4 times a year, but this time I also got a $10 credit for having a My Criterion profile.
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) Barnes and Noble has the whole Criterion Collection on sale for 50% off.
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) I saw that. Between the CC sale, the recent Amazon Father's Day one, and this, you can sure build your collection at a great price. But even if I wasn't plumb broke right now, I have never been able to get B&N to work for international orders, despite the fact they say you can.
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) Thanks for that! Just picked up La Jetée, Rushmore, and Solaris... Had it shipped to a US address to save on shipping, but it did offer to ship internationally (and shipping wasn't abusive, $9 or so). Why do you say it doesn't work, Stephen? (oh and Deb, want to move close to me? )
Re: criterion collection "godzilla" (1954) Yeah, it says you can, and let's you input the international address, and everything is fine, but there is something wrong with the checkout process that it never lets you complete the order. I emailed customer service several times and have never gotten a reasonable response.
