Long overdue. I love all things Ultraman (I know, shocking right?). Figured we should have a dedicated place to post random [non-toy] stuff. You know, cool videos, pics, art, factoids, news, rants, etc. about the show* and its beloved genius creator. Two things of note recently. Firstly, we just passed Eiji Tsuburaya's birthday (either the 7th of July or the 10th, depending on the source) a few days ago, and I wanted to start a thread for that, but anyways, Happy Birthday Eiji. Your great works have given us all immeasurable joy for many years. Secondly, by way of additional celebration, today marks the anniversary of the 'birth of Ultraman' on the live-action TV special that preceded the show's premiere. While it may not have been blessed with all the wondrous miniaturised effects from Tsuburaya - there are some in a cutaway shot - it is an interesting bridge between the shows (and I am pretty sure you can see a long shot of Eiji in the crowd with the children ). No subs, but features some classic kaiju characters - and of course, the appearance of the Science Patrol and our hero from M78. * counting all of the Ultra series here

Finally some activity. I was worried this thread was going to die a slow neglected death, what gives? I am a sucker still for the original '66 version, love those menko/trading cards. That is an unfortunately timed photo they used for Gyango though.
My Dad introduced me to Ultraman when I was a kid. Definitely took up a big chunk of my time growing up. I can't say I'm fanatic about it, as I only know a good handful of monsters and decent general background/knowledge of the series, but it's certainly still something nostalgic for me. And I can absolutely appreciate the series for what it is and for what it's done to inspire others and create for its genre.
Malaysian Ultraman gum, probably one of the few Ultraman commercials you will be able to find in English.
I've got a real exciting update for any Skullbrainers in Hawaii. I just heard from Mr. Ragone that KIKU - the same channel that started the whole Kikaida mania in the 1970s - is going to be airing Ultraman Leo in its entirety! The show will be in the original Japanese programming as I understand, and will air as part of their New Year's Specials — 1830-1900 HST. Here is more info with the KIKU listings: http://kikutv.com/specials-and-upcoming-shows/ That is 51 episodes of amazing Leo in all its glory. Some of the craziest, action-packed, bizarre kaiju defending you can as for. This is definitely something not to be missed! Kiku TV is actually well-known for its abundance of Japanese program content in the 1970s. IN addition to the many tokusatsu television shows they carried, they often had Japanese samurai and ninja movies, and load of kids shows and anime. It just makes me so happy that there are still people out there broadcasting shows like just for the love of them and the history of it. I wish more independent channels like this existed in places I have lived. Now who can I get to tape all of these for me?
I grew up watching KIKU in Hawaii; I got there when they were showing Kinkyu Shirei 10-4 10-10, which was a Tsuburaya Productions show that could best be described as Ultraman, with out a Gigantic or Human sized hero. Anyway, a year or two later, they showed a preview for "Ultra 7". And I fell in love with it from that day! When I was older they did show the original Ultraman, but I don't think it was on KIKU. By the way, Ultraman Leo looks great every Friday!!
Well, in a world where Japanese anime never ceases to surprise you, this upcoming project might not seem that odd. But, give it a minute. Entitled Kaiju Sakaba Kanpai! [怪獣酒場 カンパーイ!], this appears to be a short anime based on Ultra monsters going to a bar and drinking away their sorrows (presumably they must have a lot of them, with all the specium they have been hit with, rubber limbs that have been torn off, and being tossed around like ragdolls - and don't even get me started on poor Seabosu). Anyway, watch the delightful video below for a mellow Kanegon on the ol' acoustic. [And watch for a surprise Baltan bartender.] Premiered on July 7th I gather, so there may be an episode out there somewhere. Pretty random and brilliant. Wish I could understand the lyrics to his ballad. Definitely a bar I want to hang out in.
It probably has to do with this has to do with this: I asked my co-worker for a rough translation of the song: (music) that silver guy cross his arms defeating us with his laser attack us kaiju only have 3 mins only 3 mins of glory lift a glass from your tears (music)
One good thing about Hulu Japan, all the old Ultra series in there entirety are available. Karen Rider too! I've been watching all the Leo and Ace recently.
^^^ Reminds me: In case any of my North American neighbors don't know what crunchyroll's been up to... http://www.crunchyroll.com/ultraman-leo http://www.crunchyroll.com/ultraman-80
Oddly enough some local retro station has been showing Ultraman and Ultra Q episodes recently. I just happen to turn on the TV the other day and watch Red King kill Pigmon lol

I have seen a lot of Ultraman stuff in my time, and very little of that I would say no to, but honestly, why? I don't see the purpose of these at all. And I am even totally fine with (even a little excited by the prospect of ) Ultraman underwear. But for the love of specium, have it be cool or something. Make them with ultramonsters on them, or done in underoos-uniform fashion. Heck, even just snapshots from the show would be better. But having them plastered like fake denim... and with a belt.... ick. This is confined to the things I wish I had not seen, and deserves no place in the land of great stuff that is SB.
Ultraman unfortunately never got popular enough over here in the USA. We did have the 90s TV show that made its debut to try and ease Americans into the concept of it. I loved watching this series as a kid even though i know its probably not the best one its probably the ONLY one iv seen him in. The toys Bandai made for us was pretty cool though. Wish i had managed to keep a couple of them in mint.
I'll admit that it was fun to be able to chase Ultraman stuff at Toys Я Us - the playset was a particular favorite of mine - but the show itself is best left on the shelf. Funny how the Japanese title, Ultraman Great, seems so ironic now! A braided belt, no less! Thing is, I just couldn't bear the pain alone. Ultraman Underoos, though? Sign me up! A printed union suit would be pretty fab. Or adult-sized footie pajamas. Okay, you've swallowed the brimstone, so here's some treacle: View this post on Instagram Lifted from @moru_511's IG feed.
Oh shit i just found one of the old 90s toy promotions for the USA to! XD You know i wouldn't mind Japan trying to give the United States another chance into weening us into Ultraman again. Not sure how that can be done though. Maybe a cartoon series?
Well yeah, of course that is better, but that is like asking if Batman Returnsis a better film than Batman v. Superman.
Okay, pH - is this any better?
