Absolutely one of the very best. Although they were definitely considered part of the original UK punk movement, they were more technically talented than most punk bands. Maybe that's why they don't sound so punk in retrospect. Baroque keyboards are so Rick Wakeman LOL.

'77-81 is it, man. First five albums or so. Everything after "Feline" pales, and even that album is no "Black and White" or "No More Heroes." Good, good memories! Sounds like you landed an excellent score. :-)

When I was 16 I worshipped them. Also Siouxsie's "The Scream" (their only album for me) and Gang of Four's first one etc. etc.

Hah, back in the day, "punk rock nostalgia" was a self-cancelling concept. :-)

Had the black & white vinyl release of Black & White, the 3-d cover for Raven plus the regular releases. All destroyed in a flooded basement  They were too polished to be punk, but they were good.
(Yeah, I'm old enough to remember the joy of 12" album covers. Not to hijack, but around the same era, the covers from Factory Records could not be beat. And I lost them, too.)

Agreed about Factory record covers, although sometimes what was inside didn't exactly live up to the promise of the cover. I especially remember a couple of New Order singles ... I think one of the titles was "Thieves Like Us." Amazing neo-surrealist cover art, embarassingly bad song. (IMHO)

I also lost all my vinyl LPs in a flood, although the flood was the water that put out the fire that destroyed my home. :-)

Even with the best CD cover art, you just don't get the scale and impact that art on LPs had.

My friend won tickets to see new order on the blue monday tour (don't remember the record name). One of the worst concerts I ever saw. I wasnt a big fan of Factory and took great pleasure in taunting "Death Rock" kids.

Looks like its still a popular past time

Someone just dumped a bunch of their stranglers 7"s off at amoeba. I went there a few weeks ago & saw them in the used record bin. One of my favorite "old timey punk rock bands" are The Buzzcocks. I love the love songs, I guess. A Different Kind of Tension is my least dusty record.

speaking of Factory record covers:http://super7store.com/store/detail.php?item_id=8973
This collection rules!
