agreed, it was amazing. A little background for those not in the know, he was a main artist who did set design for Pee Wee's Playhouse. It chronicles his art then and now. Really great stuff.

Watched the first episode last night. Seems to be a bit of a mixed bag but I liked it enough to keep watching. The weird rich lady kinda reminded me of Morticia Addams. :-)

I finished the series the other day. It was OK and I wish that Eli Roth directed more then the first episode. I did like the way that they wrapped up the series and enjoyed the last 2 episodes.

I just fear that it will either be too much like American Horror Story (mixing in every imaginable idea possible into a single storyline - aliens, serial killers, Nazis, monsters, ghosts, insane asylum, etc.) or True Blood (silly love story with vampires, werewolves, etc.). Please tell me its reigned in a bit with its story arc. Then I would consider watching it.

It's a mess of everything ;) It does have an arc that is pretty well suited for the 13 episodes though. It's hard to recommend, as it's all over the place and is trying too hard.

Sherlock. The modern one with Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch. Brilliant. I love how each episode is a movie. Two seasons, six episodes, as they run 1.5 hrs each episode.

Also still constantly watch 'Spaced' and 'Hyperdrive'. Hyperdrive stars Nick Frost, and is a send-up of Star Trek/ every science fiction show ever....silly fun.

Yes, I like British TV :D

I've also been watching the Mystery Science Theater 3000 stuff available

No dice on Hedorah but that site looks pretty good, so thanks for letting me know about it! There are a bunch of godzilla movies there!

I originally got Godzilla vs the smog monster on disc from Netflix.

Stupid question but are you looking as smog monster and not hedorah?

Considering how they ditch streaming titles constantly it doesn't surprise me they drop discs titles a lot too.

Yeah, I've tried both vs Hedorah and vs the Smog Monster, neither streaming and both unavailable on disc, just have the save option.

There is a site/app called "Can I Stream It" that searches all the streaming services.

Post Re: netflix instant thread.
Someone feel free to correct me, but I just happened to notice that Netflix has added a whole whack of genre and cult films to their repertoire. This is the first time I am actually happy about stuff I see new on there.

In addition to some classic Godzilla and other Toho films (fair warning, I have not checked any of them out yet, so I can't say what versions and/or dubbing they might be), some ones of note include:

The Angry Red Planet ___Y E S !
C.H.U.D.
Black Sabbath___classic Bava
Class of Nuke'Em High
Troll II ___(don't worry, it is not a sequel)
Lair of the White Worm ___
Attack of the Crab Monsters
- and a whole bunch of Sword & Sorcery and 'Hercules'-themed flics

And many others besides. Check out the new library if you have the chance, and are as tired of the modern drivel as much as I.

Plenty of B-movie fun to fill you for the holiday season. :)

Hmm, well I guess you should have come to the Fantasia screening of The Devils then. A rare showing of an original 35mm copy, plus the man himself to accept a liftetime achievement award.

I've never seen The Devils on a big screen and it would have been fantastic to hear the man himself speak - that's great, thanks for sharing!

Were you in attendance?

I was indeed. It is sure something special to be able to experience these 'cult' and such movies on the big screen, the way they were really meant to be seen. Not only are we losing that in the digital age, but even before, so many of us would only ever have had the option of seeing great early films on shoddy home video copies. And, while very enjoyable, and I am as enthusiastic about them, I concede that nothing will ever replace the thrill of seeing and hearing a great movie in a proper theatre. There are so many others I would give a lot to be able to experience in a similar fashion. Sigh, nostalgia......

If you're even remotely interested in it, watch it ASAP, seriously.

I watch a lot of documentaries and this is the best I have seen in a real long time. I don't even care much for punk rock, protopunk, garage rock, whatever (though I do really enjoy their music and plan on picking up their records), but the story and everything about these guys is something else. Can't recommend it enough and I'm going to watch it again with my girl and hope I don't get all verklempt‎, haha.

AMAZING story- everybody who lives in this town and goes to shows/plays in bands has known the Hackneys for years, and so when this all came to light, it seemed so surreal. Myself, as a huge Bad Brains fan and having always considered them the seminal black punk band, I was blown out of the water... and that it was these longtime local-music-fixture guys... totally unexpected. I interviewed Bobby, Urian and Jules and the rest of Rough Francis on the radio in 2010, when all of this was still gaining momentum and the doc was still filming. I was so genuinely moved by hearing them talk about the discovery of the tapes, and what a testament this late discovery has been to their uncle David's incredible vision. They're all great people and well-deserving of this long-overdue spotlight.

Do we have a thread for just recommending movies? I didnt want to create one if there is already one present.

anyways I sat back last night and watched:
"The Wolf of Wall Street"
I personally liked the film very much, make sure not to watch with children around, heavy drug use, sex and language.
It's a 3 hour film, I didn't know if I'd be able to watch it all the way through in one night with it being that long. I liked it so much I made sure to watch it through though. I'd say a 8/10 I laughed quite a bit in it... the popeye scene had me really going.

After a couple of years away from all things Netflix; I finally signed up for their steaming service...

Not a bad little system they've got going, huh?

I haven't had a look yet, but I was completely delighted to see that

is among their selections.

Everybody hip to instantwatcher? Invaluable!
