Post ECMC Student Loan Scam ?
Has anyone with any history of student loans received a letter from a company call ECMC ?

Something feels fishy about this and a few friends of mine from across my state told me they feel the same about this.

I was just wondering if anyone else out there got one of these letters as it was supposed to affect the entire country.

Yeah I saw that as well. I figured that at least a few SB members may have gotten this letter and wanted to see if so.

All this just seems very weird and to make people panic to give up info without question.

I haven't seen the letter you're referring to but there are various State laws and regulations concerning the notification of consumers in cases of personally identifying information breaches. I wouldn't be super-surprised that this is a legitimate notification - I also wouldn't be surprised if scammers jumped in at the same time.

What are they asking for? And where are they asking for you to provide it?

There are typically fines associated w/ that stuff and a requirement to provide free credit monitoring for some period of time.

You're in NY, right? If so - here's something from your Consumer Protection Board.
