I haven't seen the letter you're referring to but there are various State laws and regulations concerning the notification of consumers in cases of personally identifying information breaches. I wouldn't be super-surprised that this is a legitimate notification - I also wouldn't be surprised if scammers jumped in at the same time.
What are they asking for? And where are they asking for you to provide it?
There are typically fines associated w/ that stuff and a requirement to provide free credit monitoring for some period of time.
