This is great. Let's just keep going back and forth for no reason whatsoever. Yay!

Hey, did you know that this is a discussion forum? Is there something you'd like to discuss, or are you just wasting virtual space again?

Okay, if I really have to spell it out for you...

You said: Addicted I honestly don't think he's electable. He's black, and his name sounds Muslim. There are a lot of prejudiced people out there. I don't think he can win.

So you're saying that because he's part black, and his name sounds Muslim, you don't think he's electable... and then go on to say that there are prejudiced people "out there"? Sounds to me like there's at least one prejudiced person "in here".

I will make a statement by saying I agree with you that there are people who will have problems voting for him because of his race and his name. However, I also think that it may work for him among other voters. We'll see if the Democrat party has faith in him when it comes to the primaries.

what worries me is the voters in an educated country wouldn't elect someone simply because their name sounds 'muslim' or, gosh, they are black.

(not saying thats your thoughts GB, but if they are, well  )

Just thank god its not a black woman with a disabilty and a surname such as Patel running for office

Almost as ridiculous as not allowing entry of Yusuf Islam into the US until they realised it was Cat Stevens!!

Loco, check out page 1, I made the same observations and I don't consider myself prejudiced. It's a statement about the electorate, not the candidate.

Yes, that is what I'm saying. And your logic is seriously flawed. I think that many people in America are prejudiced against blacks and Muslims, so therefore I, too, am prejudiced? That makes no sense.

It's the way he says it though. "He's black." "His name sounds Muslim." "He's unelectable."

He might've been speaking in terms of a prejudiced electorate, but the way he said it makes it sound like it's an opinion he shares.

Parka, if you walk into any supermarket here you will find white and yellow American cheese for sale. The only difference is a dash of food coloring, but you will find many people who buy and eat only one type and not the other because they swear that the two taste completely different from one another.

So, yeah, we do have a population here who makes decisions based on silly little minor things. ;p

Sometimes I wonder what elections would be like if America adopted Australia's system, where you get fined for not voting.

Thank you, Roger. The reality is that Obama's name and race do impact his chances of winning a presidential election. How much of an impact? Who knows. But you can bet that Obama's campaign strategists and many Democratic leaders are wondering the same thing.

"Your president is ill informed, ill equipped and ignorant."

And your PM fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Ya think Gordo will be any better? Time will tell.

Hey don't blame us, we didn't elect him.

At least not the first time.

I dont really know if that standard holds true anymore-Seems that theres an increasingly wider variety of ethnicities and cultures in the populace nowadays..Personally i like his attitude and ideals and will be voting for him..It would be a shame if people were so ignorant as not to vote for someone because of how his name sounds or his skin color but i guess that does still hold true in certain parts of the country still, but only time and the upcoming election will tell.

I read that nowadays racism usually involves people acting in prejudiced ways without meaning to. The prejudice is subconscious.

Very possible but i wouldnt believe everything you read-All print/articles are opinion based loosely in fact so while that may hold true to some aspects of our culture i really dont wholeheartedly believe it for one second..His face/color/name wont be affecting my vote-Hes got it already :D
