The production company was in the room next to me at Universal a few years ago now. The designer is a British guy, and one of the assistants was really cool and intriduced me and took me around the department, and I checked out designs and costumes. The coolest thing was a cart of cylon heads...as we all know that robot Heads are cool. They showed me how they rigged up that roving red light in their eyes. Anyway, that was fun for a while, then the whole crew got moved to Canada, and most of the cool people lost their jobs.

Man, that was a cool building to work in sometimes. Used to see Steven Soderberg around occasionally, and I had a "special" relationship with the 40 year old virgin production offices.

So, tell me, is this show srtaing tonight a new series, and where are they at? The few I've seen were really good.

I wish I could see it. We don't have Sci-Fi anymore. I gotta wait for the damn DVDs.

Interesting! However, I don't remember any instances of them using physical Cylon heads in the show, they're all CGI. In fact, when they shoot they just have a cardboard cutout of the centurions to work with. Is it possible you saw stuff from the unproduced Bryan Singer series? I know that they created stuff like a full-sized Viper, even though they never started filming.

Tonight's show is the season 3 premiere of the new series. I strongly recommend renting the DVDs if you're behind or haven't started yet, it's incredible.

SPOILERS AHOY!!!

- Tigh is now Ahab, I love it!

- It's seems that the cylons were completely unprepared for what simple contact with humans would do to them. The attempt to control the human race has tainted the cylons. They're doing increasingly horrible things and at the same time trying to justify them by invoking the name of their God.

- I wonder why the Cylons showed their hand by revealing the D'anna Biers type cylon.

- After Duck's swan song, Jammer is shown to be not only alive, but without a scratch on him? Maybe the speculation about him was right. CYLON!

- Glad to see that Racetrack and Kat never quit the service.

- "Sharon Agathon?" I guess they're officially hitched now.

- What a great scene between Zarek and Roslyn. I hope they make it.

- And despite seeing the "flounder fillets" mini documentary on Sci-Fi's site, nothing could prepare me for FAT APOLLO.

he is fat as a pig. Its awesome. at one point his dad screams 'get your fat ass out of here'.

this is the greatest show in TV history. I like how they have totally turned it on its head for season 3. amazing.

the guy that plays Baltar is an amazing actor. Never have I felt so sorry for such a bastard character.

I am also digging Starbucks weird 'stepford wife' nightmare existence. plus, how HOT is she with long hair?

Ty keeps getting better as well. He is now truly a powerful total force. VENGEANCE!

who would have thought they could take the laMEST sci fi show ever and resurrect it as a noir masterpiece? its so awesome.

This was waaaaaaay before the series showed up on Sci-fi. They had a whole cart of sifferent heads, maybe for reference, or scanning? Basically they had a little motor inside the head, with a laser pointer attached to it, and it went backwards and forwards inside, shining the light out against the inside of the visor.

So this is the beginning of seson 3 then? Is it possible to start watchoing now and have a clue whats going on?

The time frame sounds right that it might have been the Tom DeSanto/Bryan Singer version that was cancelled. Do these look familiar?

http://www.cylon.org/bsg/bsg-global-01.html

There's more here:

http://www.cylon.org/bsg/bsg-desanto-01.html

They actually got to the point where they were making costumes and set pieces like those Vipers, which were put in storage and eventually destroyed.

It's possible, but I think it might be tough. If you go to Sci-Fi's site here:

http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/video/i ... t=features

There is a short feature called "The Story So Far," but I think it's a little skimpy. If I were you I would be Tivo'ing or torrent'ing or iTunesing the season 3 episodes now and start with the Season 1 boxed set, which includes the mini-series that kicked off the show. It's one hell of a ride.

Also, while this show uses many elements from the original show, it is a completely different story, not a sequel.

I agree, totally, but unfortunately the name has such a bad vibe associated with it that there are many people who will never see the show. I have many friends who are big fans of shows like The Shield and 24 that would go crazy for this but won't touch it. Too bad for them. ;p

Canada's sci fi channel has been playing the original battlestar galactica series and it's not as bad as i remember it. There are certainly overtones that i completely missed when i was 7. It's still cheesy, but i'm enjoying it.

I watched it again with the commentary podcast. A couple of interesting tidbits:

- Originally the episode was going to open with D'Anna Biers doing a propaganda piece for the cylons.

- There was a scene, scripted but cut, that had Jammer digging himself out from under the dead bodies at the bombed-out graduation ceremony. Maybe he isn't a cylon after all. Or is he?

- One idea Moore had was that the resistance was kidnapping cylons, tying them up and throwing them in a deep pit far away from the town, keeping them alive so that they couldn't resurrect and warn the other cylons about what was going on. This would have been the main thing that was frightening the cylons about the resistance.

So much happened in this episode so quickly, almost too quickly.

It seems that Baltar knows who Hera is (thanks to the Six in his head), and D'anna does, but does Caprica Six know?

Poor Tigh. The last shred of humanity the cylons didn't take away from him is now dead.

At least Hot Dog made it.

Bye bye, Pegasus.

Going to rewatch this one.

That was one heck of an episode! I love how they move the story along so quickly. I'm not really buying the whole Kara motherhood thing though.

An okay episode. We learned nothing about the final five, although I liked the bit with Sharon's "suicide mission" and the painting in Starbuck's apartment.

I guess Original Boomer is now Dark Boomer. As we saw in the mini series, cylons and babies don't mix well.

How convenient for Baltar. If they decide to make it public that he's been captured, they have Caprica Six to help testify on his behalf, to say that she tampered with the Colonial defense network without his knowledge, or that he signed that death warrant because he had a gun pointed at his head.

So I guess we won't see Lucy Lawless again, will we?

i enjoyed it, i always enjoy it.

SPOILERS ahead if you haven't watched this tonight!!!

but i'm wondering how they are going to resolve this cara/apollo thing... i really dont' want them to put it on the backburner for another year and then reintroduce it.

i wonder if sam is getting axed this season. lol. (just an idea, i don't like spoilers so i don't check around about this stuff)

and can the lucy lawless series come back from being boxed??

i can't wait to see what they have in store for us, they take a lot of risks on this show... i was stunned by the twists at the end of the 2nd season. It seems like they are unafraid to ditch familiar (and comfortable) plot elements in favor of completely new directions. very uncommon on tv and when it does happen, it usually doesn't turn out so well.

Yeah, I would like to see a satisfying resolution to the Starbuck-Anders-Apollo-Dualla "love square" but I hope they don't handle it the way they did last time - just kill off one of the players (Billy).

Thinking about the "final five": I don't remember where this came from originally, but in the old show, the explanation for why a cylon raider needed three pilots was that the toasters were really bad at individual decision making. In case two of the pilots didn't agree on something, the third would be the tie-breaker.

(This little bit of apocrypha had been rattling around in my head for a long time and I didn't know if it was my own imagination or someone else's idea, until I was out with two friends one night and they couldn't agree on a restaurant. They told me, "You're the third cylon, make the call." Yeah, we're geeks.)

Anyway, this got me thinking, if there were 12 humanoid cylon models, an even number could make decision making difficult (think of a deadlocked jury). Maybe they felt that they had to reduce the number of active models to an odd number so they could plan things more effectively. Of course, now that they've boxed the Lucy Lawless type, they're back to an even number.

Were the "final five" also boxed? Were they simply exterminated? Or were they all sent on some deep cover mission and erased from the memories of the remaining seven for some unknown purpose?

Or, perhaps they were re-purposed as Hybrids. Perhaps they weren't, maybe they're masquerading as things like the Hybrid and pulling the strings behind the scenes.

We were discussing this last night a bit, finally understand why she was always listed as a guest star...

I thought last night was incredible...i want to know who it is she recognized in the final five..and why she apologized to them..interesting indeed.

after the show we busted out the miniseries and watched a bit...why do i go to bed at 2 on work nights....oy
