I have to agree this design would be widely lambasted if it didn't have the KAWS label on it. Same goes for a lot of uninspired designs by "marquee" designers who are leveraging their celebrity to cash in while they can.

I love this one too. (And no, I'm not just saying that because it has Kaws' name on it)

I think it looks like something I drew in MS paint with my eyes shut and clicking on random tools.

I'm not a huge fan of this particular piece, but to say it's unprofessional is uber-ignorant. It's still got excellent design and high production value. KAWS is one of our generation's brightest stars in the art game. Bashing him is you're right, but don't say he's amateur-level.

If you turn on your sound you can hear the loud sucking sound it makes.

I am not saying that he is an amateur. The dissection pieces (while not very original) were eyecatching. The 5YL figures are iconic.

I am saying that this comes across as an amateur sophomoric piece. I see no "excellent" design values here. And "high production" values are nothing if the piece is horrible.

The Xs on the eyes look like they were done by amateur inspired by KAWS. It's just a blob with some X eyes and a toothy mouth. Absolutely nothing inspiring here, at least to me. This is even worse than the Bendys.

If the eyes were different and KAWS name wasn't attached to the piece, no one would care about this. Sorry, even KAWS can make mistakes.

This bank sucks IMO, but it's just a bank...just a consumer piece put out through the OF store to pay some bills...that's it. It's not like this is one of his "fine art" pieces or even something meant to fit in with his other toys.

I view it closer to this... not a fan, but it really is just a piggy bank...

Will it fit in with the other toy prices?

The Attaboy analogy is good -this piece does for emoticons what Axtrx does for punctuation.

I like the bendys . personally...they are kinda genius. I collect kaws.

If this piece had been released by say.... Wang 'no name' Chung.....if it was not a Kaws piece...

would anyone buy it.

be honest.

Well of course! Remember the "pay some bils" part!

That's the truth. The only reason this thing sells is because of who designed it.
I wouldn't buy one for $9.99.
But KAWS has to live up to the Medicom contract and keep O-Fake a viable brick/mortar shop.

Honestly, I would, but hey- I bought an Axtrx too (GID!). Actually this piece reminds of a couple of years back when people were willing to take a chance and just make weird shit. This one of the ugliest toys I've ever seen. That's probably why I like it!

p.s. I also find it kind of funny that no matter what Kaws releases there are always folks who point out that the piece has been made with the goal of getting suckers to part with their dollars. As if the latest Rumble Monster, Real Head or Skullbrain wasn't!

I kinda like this sculpt, strong kinship to the Axtrx aside- I like how, between the dissected innards and the mouth on this guy, KAWS is beginning to inject some bio-realism into his work. I think that's a good direction for him- think of how well it worked on the KAWSxPus- and he should do more of it.

Still, tho, this does seem to be a toss-off, to be releasing this as a stand-alone piece- I think it woulda been worlds cooler (and garnered a lot less nay-saying) had it been the head on a new large-scale figure design- coulda been the first in some new, break-away-from-the-Companions line of the KAWS figural family .

It reminds me of the big, round black head thing on a chain from the old Nintendo64 Mario games. (Can't think of what they were called. I think they barked.)

And rather than releasing obligatory KAWS pieces, I still like someone's idea of OF having 'guest artist' releases.

Ooops, Jackie. Now I see you posted that earlier. Those chain chompers barked, didn't they?
