Nobody is debating whether Ron English's work isn't thought provoking, and you know i wasnt bashing him so come with a better argument. The point is he IS NOT A GRAFFITI WRITER and if you ask him, he himself will tell you he isn't. So my previous statement stands and your post just looks silly assuming i don't know the guys history, like someone on the almighty "locals only" boards just schooled the new guy. "silly newbys"
All that said , doesn't change my view on his figure, i like it for what it is, Im just re using one mans argument acrossed the board about spraying paint and using a base for a figure. i didnt even bring up the pushead custom argument yet as compaired to the latter. Pop shit about one person, hael glory for another, could just be people are haters to something new or your lives are soo boring you sit around waiting to argue about anything new at any chance( which is my believe on more then 4 occasions now). Explaining why this thread has been ontop for the past 2 days, cuz your boards regular discussion is boring.
Bring the soap opera and everyone will tune in.

Well, as you asked - no, I am not digging this much at all. I guess I should see it in person before finally deciding, but.... so far no.

As you were bemonaing the lack of Western goodness, may I also suggest McSupersized as great Western Vinyl - love the sculpt and concept and most of the colorways (altho there were rather a few of them, BUT, I'm not complainng about that). The mid-sized figures are an amazing unsung and unhyped release!

Plus Jarvis of course, I'm even warming to the bigger Vortigen's figures as well now.

Yeah, it is indeed dumb to argue about aesthetics - altho I do have a rep for no holds barred, jugular shredding eye gouging attacks on this board. Oh yeah, and I'm always involved in all the drama too. And I just LOVE bashing noobs - just ask anyone.

As for bashing Ron, I didn't think you were bashing him (describing his handpaint "Crapola" and "pukey" could in no way be construed as bashing), I was just morally outraged and apoplectic with rage that a "new blood" would even consider him in the same artistic Universe as Ewok (If you'd have had 25 or so more posts, then I would have probably agreed with you).

I think you'll find my post above was pretty open minded (unlike some of the comments in this thread), as in I don't like what I see in the photo, but maybe I'll like it in person. If you stay around you'll find I am pretty open minded. By the way, did u see the Ron English hand paints up close? What colors were available?

Re: "And that piece is just one solid shape of vinyl no pieces or movement at all, talk about a statue." And please, don't take this wrong, or think I am attacking the Fresh Meat when I mention that the McSupersized are in fact articulated, and not one solid piece as you mention.

As for the soap opera bringing people in, well it keeps reeling you back in as well so I guess you are just as drama deprived as the rest of us ...

Love and Peace dude, LAPD :D

This is the Futura sculpt that I was referencing. I own three different versions of this one. I don't own the ones you reference as i don't care for their look. No base, designed to stand on its own although I think Frank had one collapse on him.

Some people probably hate this sculpt or the paint. Fine. Whatever.
Doesn't matter to me as I think it's really cool.

The nosferatu was a great piece, I have 3 , unfortunately they do have a tendency to shelf dive. Ironicaly in this case I wouldnt mind if they had the base that the eris so version has. I was just bringing up the other Futuras with bases to show how people seem to overlook some yet overthink others.
Again, I think in alot of cases a base could be avoided but to stay true to the art why not?

Image
to keep true to this art that I bought on a tshirt ages ago so I know it's the original, a base is unavoidable, all the weight of the figure would go on that little ass left foot.

If anyone is looking for a Futura Nosferatuu, I have a green camo one that is new and completely undisplayed, lying in his styrene coffin. Happy to sell him on at cost or less. Also have the eric So version - which has been displayed - but I have no display room for these big guys anymore.

It was kinda funny to watch bunch of guys in their 50's wait on line at the Toy Tokyo booth to get that ugly spray painted mess signed.
Apparently there is a hole hidden world of graffitti fans out there.

These horslingtons are the ugliest things i have seen in a long time. My buddy bought a black "customized" one at NYCC and it looks like a 3 year old dribbled paint on it. The color version is hard to look at. The stand is just another nail in the coffin.

remeber folks, this just one man's opinion.

save your money. buy some of ewok's original art instead.
and no, i dont mean his graff work. check out his fine art/character stuff if/when you get a chance.
saw a couple of pieces recently, and it blew me away. both were around $850-900 bucks.
i have known of ewok for quite some time, but i truly never knew he had a fine art side to him. you will be pleasantly surprised

Interestingly I've recently debated taking the plunge into buying some original art, unfortunately my current financial status is alittle tight. But I'm thinking of selling of some figures that may free up some money to actualy allow me to buy some original art. Elmaz where did you see these pieces you speak of and was it in person?

yes, it was in person. ewok and i and a bunch of other graff artists were in a group benefit show for Tempt One 2 weeks ago. it was put on by URB magazine and a place called Known Gallery in Culver City, CA.
i saw one of them in person(at the show) and really dug it. i am not sure if it is still available, but if you are interested PM me and i will give you the contact info for the people i have dealt with at URB and at the gallery and you can inquire with them. that one was $900, i believe
i did some digging around, and stumbled upon another one. i can't recall where it was at though, but it was online that i saw it.
the one he did for the Tempt show was a topless girl. boobs are always good. j/k, it was very tasteful.
