Post Biskup and a DIFFERENT Gargamel from FRESNO!
I had forgotten about this...While searching ebay for "gargamel" I ran into this 7" record by Fresno's "Gargamel" circa 1988ish. The 7" record was put out on Tim's record label and designed and hand screened by Biskup too! I think he plays on the record as well - The stuff was so noisy and weird live that I saw some "regular joe" sitting in a club one night in Fresno watching Gargamel and he eventually just STOOD UP IN FRUSTRATION AND ANGER and threw a heavy chair at the stage. it was funny and with all the agitation and NOISE from the stage I couldn't blame him!

Heh ... good ole punk memories. :-) Mine may date me, but I love 'em.

Coupla questions ... did the band spell their name with an exclamation point ... "Gargamel!" ?

Also, what was the name of Biskup's label?

Curious 'cause my boss knows Biskup and we work in the music industry ... I vaguely remember this band name but I'm not sure if I'm confusing them with someone else.

If memory serves me correctly it wasn't Tim's band...It was the guy Willy's band but Tim would sit in often. The music was swirlly crazy noise actually. Literally.

Ironically they both did play in Capitol Punishment (drums) though...Plenty of hardcore love for everybody there. They were a GREAT FUCKING BAND by the way...No big-time successes cuz they were from Fresno. Anybody here ever heard CAPITOL PUNISHMENT?

Tim's label was called "Duck Butter Records" and his band with his brother Mike was "Big Butter".

I had a 7" label (mid / late 80's) Fresno only hardcore called "Ragin' Records" which was also the name of my punk rock stores in the central valley of California. Tim and I did a co-release though on "Ragin' Duck Records" with DEF AMERICAN and a Fresno band called SUPREME LOVE GODS - great Love and Rockets meets Manchester stuff.

We also put out a HELLBILLY'S "Knocked Up And Gun Crazy" 7" with PREGNANT PORN COVER!

I can't remember how Gargamel spelled their name tho actually. I have that 7" around here somewhere...

Hey there. I was not technically in the band, but I produced that record and released it on my label. Also did the cover based on a drawing my Willy Greer & I played live with them.

I remember that guy throwing a chair at us. We were doing a cover of the song that Willy Wonka sings while they are in the boat and everything is going nuts... you know, "you have no idea which way this boat is going... and the rowers keep on rowing...". He said later that he was not angry or trying to stop us. He just got so into it that he had to do something insane. Kinda like that time that Andrew Brandou and I threw a table across the room at a Squarepusher show. Real fans throw things.

I remember that band. I saw them play at Gilman in the late 80s and I think I have a 7". I know I have a comp with CP on it because I listened to it a couple months ago. I also own a Big Butter 7" that I haven't listened to in a long time.

Damn! Is this board where old cali hardcore kids go to have toy OCD. I used to go over to Barry from Christ on Parade's gf's house to watch unsubtitled Aura Battler Dunbine videos when I was runnin around back then. He had a massive video tape collection.

Too funny, Special Forces was one of my favorite bands to see back in the day. Too bad about all them Emeryville Peace Punks ;P

Hahaha ... oh man, ye olde Gillman memories. Makes me feel old. I remember seeing the Circle Jerks' first SF show in 1982 or so at the Savoy Tivoli in SF (opening for The Mentors LOL) and thinking "OK if this LA thing is where CA punk is going, then punk is dead." I guess I was wrong. Just a few months later I was digging the LA scene. Now in retrospect, it's like "what's the big deal? It was all good punk."

I had the same feeling again in about 1988 at Gillman when some "peace punks" intentionally threw hot coffee at me and my lady friend because they assumed (very wrongly) that I was the wrong kind of skinhead. Peace, love, and braindead little acts of violence. Not impressed. :-)

Now that the corporate entity "Green Day" is winning Grammys, can I please say "punk is dead" with some certainty?

Weird-ass kaiju are my punk rock now. Life is good.

 I wasn't around for those punk rock days, but maybe someday we'll all be sitting around chatting about the early days of Gargamel and Bemon (before they sold out).

I am not familiar with your band. Did you ever put out any records? Would I even be able to find any of the records?

Yeastie Girls is a band I haven't thought about in forever. I should pull that record out and listen to it again sometime soon.

I was living on the Peninsula, repping Team Yahtzee. Killjoy and Whipping Boy were the local bands of merit in our area.

Nice!

BTU? Not I said the Fresno boy.

Lot's of Fresnans have since moved up and become "Dogpatch Wino's" of all things.

I had many o good times surrounding Gilman shows...The Fang house in Oakland and all the FUCKING CRAZY ZANINESS. some of them fellers were out of their minds!

I of course remember those bands. I remember Whipping Boy probably best.

Are you the artist AL Jr?
