Post since Grindhouse flopped, let's talk about bad movies
there was a thread on here a while ago about your favorite bad movies and someone (I don't remember who) mentioned a movie made by the same guy who made The Killing Of Satan. whoever you were, please fill me in on it again.

and also some movie with Chuck Norris as a blind dude or something?

those sound great. I want more suggestions. and I can give some in return if you'd like.

'Twas me, Skylar- the movie was Blind Rage, by Efren C. Pinon, and it's freaking amazing.
No Chuck Norris...just a bunch of dudes who wish they were Norris, trying to act blind....some great product placement for a local leather tannery and the International House of Pancakes in downtown Manila, too.

"The Postman..."

Total garbage. I dunno if it "flopped" financially, but I know it and "Waterworld" destroyed most of Costner's credibility in Hollywood.

well, if flopped in the sense that they totally over-advertised it but then it came in around 4th at the box office and only made like $15 million dollars or something, which I know sounds liek a lot, but not as much as was expected.

I really don't think the average movie goer really understands what the hell is going on or what the movie is supposed to be celebrating. I think lots of people are confused.

unfortunately i think qt and rr shot themselves in the foot because the running time is well over three hours which means less times that a theater can screen the movie therefore meaning less money. also the R rating kills it because the majority of people going to the movies these days are teenage kids.

all in all i think the movie was awesome. and i really hope robt rodriguez makes machete. that would be amazing. and eli roth needs to make thanksgiving as well.

What is the restriction for R these days in America? In AU it's a restricted category for 18+ only no exceptions, but in US it's 17 and flexible?

Does anything get released as NC17 anymore or does that not exist?

well basically, NC-17 does exist, and I know that RR originally wanted to make no cuts to the film. the problem is, in this country we have this roundabout censorship where even though the NC-17 does exist for mature adults who feel like they can handle a film like that, pretty much no theater chains will screen an NC-17 film. so you're doomed to only arthouses, which isn't a bad thing necessarily, but not for a film that wants to make millions and millions of dollars.

scott, I wouldn't say they shot themselves in the foot. I really think they wanted to make this movie no matter what, and they really don't care if it does well financially or if the majority of people like it, which I totally respect. they like it and they know people like me will like it and that's all that matters to them. it has to be at least 3 hours because that's honestly the run time of an old style double feature.

and fuck cutting movies to get a PG-13 so teenage kids can see them. in fact, fuck teenage kids that come and talk through movies I want to see. I wish there were "adults only" theaters that didn't just show porn, although I don't know how much better that would be. adults have been talking right through film festival screenings.

I actually went to see it on Easter sunday, which I thought was awesome. what a degenerate.

this coming october I will be attending a 24 hour movie marathon in a theater here, saturday at noon til sunday at noon. I can't wait for my ass to hurt.

I rarely go to the cinema anymore these days. Cell phones, sticky floors, someone with a big head sitting in front of me. No thanks.

I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD. Might even buy a used or discounted copy of the DVD.

NC-17 certainly exists. Go rent Shortbus that just came out on DVD. hahahahahha.

We had that screening in theatres here with an R18+ rating though I didn't see it I heard it was alright. I watch almost everything but if my cinema isn't screening it probably won't have the time to see it :)

I liked Grindhouse! Hell I just took a break in between the films. Missed part of a Rob Zombie Nazi Lesbian Werewolf faux trailer. So funny and cool! I havent had that much fun at a movie since I was a kid! A flop I did like was Legend.

I agree with you, and the sad thing is I LOVE going to the movies. but it's just gotten so bad. I used to see everything opening night, but now I go to a matinee on a sunday or something when no one is there. or a monday or tuesday night. and it never makes sense to me why people go and pay like $10 and then talk through the whole thing. if you want to talk on your cell phone, don't come to the movies. I dont' know why people feel the need to be connected with their friends 24/7. you don't have to text your girlfriend during the film. I get downright livid about it and it totally ruins the experience. I gotta be careful about speaking up where I live though or I could get shot in the face.

you would have been better off watching the trailers and taking a break sometime in the first half of Death Proof. way less happened.

ok, maybe 'shot themselves in the foot' wasn't the right choice of words since i'm sure they knew what they were in for. perhaps the studio had higher expectations since they went all out with the marketing.

either way, i saw it on sunday and had a great time as well. what kurt russell did to that chick with the messed up nose was certainly an improvement.

well, you're probably right in saying the Weinsteins shot themselves in the foot. but not either of the directors. they were given a whole bunch of money and I don't think they're gonna be "in trouble" if it doesn't do well so basically they go to do whatever they wanted and it doesn't matter. both those guys are pretty much awesome spoiled brats like that.

I had someone actually spill their beverage on me while she was walking back to her seat during a movie. WTF? All over my back.

If its a crappy weekend, I might go to the first matinee of a film.

Last film I saw in the theatre was V for Vendetta. A spontaneous decision.

I saw "Showgirls" many moons ago when I was really sick in bed. It was so entertainingly bad that it totally cheered me up and speeded my recovery. It's now one of the best-known examples of "so bad it's good" cinema, but at the time it hadn't yet achieved that "cult" status, and the writer and director were still acting like it was a "scathing expose of Las Vegas." Later, they changed their tone and tried to act like it was meant to be camp all along. Accordingly, the second DVD version included a pole-dancing instruction video, etc. Memo to Hollywood: You don't manufacture "cult" appreciation, we do when the zeit is right. Anyway, with the exception of a needless rape scene, it is a hilariously poor film, replete with unforgettable bad lines and the most laughably ridiculous sex scene I can remember ever having seen.

A couple of weeks ago I bought the DVD of Terry Gilliam's "Tideland," a movie that had the reputation as Gilliam's most dire creative failure, an exercise in poor taste with no redeeming value. What a load. In fact, it's a bizarre little masterpiece, one of Gilliam's best-ever efforts, certainly his most personal film and the only one on which he had full creative control. I'm glad that I was expecting a train wreck, because when I realized that the movie is actually the opposite, it added to the pleasure of that discovery. So ... it's not a bad film at all, but I can see why the too-easily offended would have issues with it. Just reputed to be a bad film based on some people's inhibitions, but in fact it's great auteur cinema.
