I think the different names have to do with licensing.

"Hedorah" or "Hedora" (depending on whether or not the writer chooses to leave on the trailing "h") is the Smog Monster you know and love, from the 1971 movie where he fought Godzilla. There are jillions of Hedorah toys out there, old and new, made by different companies.

"Hedoran" was a monster toy made by a company called IKB around the same time as the Godzilla movie, and it was deliberately made similar to Hedorah to appeal to kids. Today, Gargamel makes their own resculpted Hedoran toys in all shapes, colors, and sizes.

This should be a sticky.

Thank you for that helpful info Roger. I had mistakenly assumed that the various spellings were mere differences of transliteration, not unlike how Angiras, Angilas, Anguiras, and Anghiras are all the same creature.

Any Hedorah toy will have a little gold foil "Godzilla" sticker on the header card. Accept no substitutes. ;p

Ah yes, several minis that I've purchased recently came with the little gold Godzilla sticker on the wrapper or header, and indeed each character was one of Godzilla's adversaries (e.g. M1 mini Angilas, Gidorah.)

What annoys me is when I go to search for them on EBay and I have to do three different searches.

Looks like hukkokudo is using the spelling "hedoro" for their IKB reissues.
